Vintage Sewing Machine--HELP!

So I bought this vintage machine at a yard sale, the lady said it was in good condition, and it makes the sound and the needle goes up an down... after some stress getting the bobbin thread through I discovered something isn't tight enough apparently and it won't stitch. It had no manual and I can take it to a repair shop because it's one of those ones that is attached to the table. It's a Kenmore, pink/peach and beige in a wooden desk... I would attach pics but my camera's on the fritz... any ideas?

are you sure you threaded the upper thread the right way? and also through the "tension plates" (don´t know the right expression in english). The bobbin thread has a tension too, it´s a tiny screw at the bobbin case, maybe you just have to look if everything´s right and there will be no need for a repair shop!

See if you can find threading instructions on line. Some older machines have a loop on the side plate next to where the needle goes up and down.

Make sure the needle is the right way round too as older machines tend to be threaded side ways from left to right.

Another thing it could be is your bobbin case as So Lala said. It could be loose. Take the toothed dog plate off to get good access to where your bobbin goes. Make sure the case is free of fluff and moves freely without vibrating. Tighten up the retaining screw if it vibrates.

Try putting your bobbin in the other way round. So thread goes in over direction.

Check to make sure your tension coil spring on the upper thread moved freely in and out. Oil it with machine oil if it sticks.

Test your stitches using good quality thread on cotton fabric so it is easier to set your machine.

That's about all I can think of for now.

Hope this helps X
