Hungary Sewing Machine

I need help!
I've got a sewing machine and no instructions. Stupidly I opened up the bottom bobbin bit took out the bobbin and stuff. I've managed to get it all back in again but now everytime I try and sew it keeps eating my material and leaving me with a huge knot of thread!!

If any one can help in any way I'd be so greatful.
I have 2 sound of music curtain-esque costumes to make by next saturday aaagggghhh!
