I went for the watered down PVA option - it seemed to work okay, but i've never used Modge Podge so i dunno how it compares...

I love wheatpaste! Boil water with flour and sugar! You can search the web for a number of recipes.

Wheatpaste is great, but I wouldn't use it for decoupage, it doesn't dry clear.

If you are wanting to start with the "bare basics"....get bold and try a search on google for a recipe to make the starter white glue.

I haven't tried to make it this way myself yet, but may have to!

My recent search brought about a couple of different links that I liked:

http://home.howstuffworks.com/make-white-glue.htm
http://factoidz.com/how-to-make-white-glue/

or my favorite looking step-by-step (couldn't be laid out easier!)yahoo based:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2644335/how_to_make_white_glue_at_home.html

Have fun! If you try it, please let me know how well it works.

Tina

@PuddyTat:

Yes, as long as your white glue (it says on the bottle) dries clear normally. Though I've never heard of white glue that hasn't....o_0

I used wood glue from my local hardware - then mixed with a bit of water until just right Happy

Hi,

Tina I was fascinated by the recipes and had a go. The reaction was quick and simple but the end product not very good. It might work in an emergency but probably only for very light paper. I would stick to watered down PVA, which is a great allrounder and if you buy big containers works out very cheap.
It was fun though! Watching the reaction I suddenly thought - ooooh mozarello cheese, let's try it using lemon juice.
Don't. It was HORRIBLE Happy
