Stitching tools - how best to use them?

Does anyone have experience with stitching tools?
I bought a Clover embroidery stitching tool. The stitching itself is really easy but what about those loops at the back of your fabric? Can I really leave them like that? I'm thinking of ironing fusible interfacing at the back. Will that secure the loops?
