First Time Sweater Advice: Words of Wisdom?

I am terrified of attempting a sweater. I know I shouldn't be afraid of THE SWEATER, but that damn thing is intimidating. Lol. I can knit and crochet. I just have never attempted anything of such a scale before. I have wanted to make one for a while now. I am on the edge of the sweater cliff. Any advice? Is it less scary than it seems?

I've made a sweater for a teddy bear but never human-sized, I'm just as intimidated!

I literally just started my very first sweater as well. I'm a crocheter. I've been scared for too long so I personally decided to just wing it and I'm making it up as I go. I looked at some patterns and then decided fuck it. If I botch it too much, it can always be frogged. I also opted to just do it because this first one has to be a serious learning experience, so I'm just diving in and figuring it out as it happens. Haha. I've also opted to just do a simple oversized sweater. I'm making 2 squares/rectangles for the torso. hemming them up the sides and on top of the shoulders, and probably a fancy boarder on the waist hem. And I'm thinking just long rectangles for sleeves with a ribbed cuff.

So I say just go for it! Or snag a pattern and follow along. Once you tackle the first one, you'll feel so empowered and wonder why you were scared!

I made a sweater, and I'm terrible at knitting! My advice is, start with this one:

because it's so easy. Just knit and purl, some increases and decreases. Make sure to invest in some nice soft yarn, though. I used that super saver red brand or whatever and it's kinda stiff. It fits just fine, the way I finished my sleeves were a little tight (I decided on short sleeves) but other than that it fits good.
