I thought 'well I'll have a look just incase' and then I couldn't stop until I found one, didn't take too long either. How come when I want to find knitting patterns I get crochet patterns and when I was crochet patterns I get knitting patterns!

how do i make the band around the head tight like this one instead of being "lace up" like on that webbie?

no idea I've only been crocheting for a week lol It looks likes a different pattern for the band, you probaby have to increase stitches after it for the bit the dreads go into so that its tight.

I'm not so sure. I'd probably try a smaller hook for that part.
And a smaller stitch like single crochet or half double crochet.

You could make a seperate band. Crochet a long strip, the width you want it to be and then sew it together at the end, not so tightly you can't get it on, not so loosely it falls off, and then sew it on to the rest of the Tam. That's what I'd do anyway.

I've made quite a few tams over the years. My boyfriend has dreads and works a very messy job...and I wear one whenever I paint or cook or it's hot and want my hair away from my face. Happy I've used this pattern quite a few times. The pictures are a little scary but I love the hat. I'll see if I can dig up a picture of one I've made. I also have made a few without patterns so if you don't like this one, let me know. Happy http://bythehook.blogdrive.com/archive/46.html
