im need help with a pattern

im making an owl hat. this is what it says "Round 3) Ch 2 and make a hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st* around, join with sl st in the top of ch 2 (30 hdc). before that there was 20 hdc. how does it go from 20 to 30? am i suppose to do 1 hdc then 2 hdc and just do that every other stitch or what?

exactly... you do 1 hdc, then 2hdc in the next stitch... then 1 hdc, then 2 hdc in the next stitch... etc...

so i made the hate and it was too small so i tried to make it bigger as i went but now the hat has a brim all the way around. is there way to make it bigger with out unraveling it? could i cut the seem and add stitches to it?

to make it bigger you should add more stitches when making the rounds... that's the only way I know...

I think you'll have to unravel it up to the point that it fits and then you'll have to increase the amount of stitches for each round.
Do you have a link to the pattern - it might be easier to help you if I can see what the pattern says.
