how to crocet using a funky wool

hi all; ok so today i bought a really funky wool and the reason i bought it was because the woman in the shop showed me a really cool scarf made from this wool and she quickly showed me the pattern which from what i could gather only had like one or two stitches in it really... so basically this is what the wool looks like... its got a skinny piece lets say like regular wool and then about an inch up theres an almost cocoon of material made of something like velour or tat and this continues up alone at inch intervals... id really appreciate any advice as i dont want to waste the wool... thanks in advance...

You can crochet or knit this kind of yarn by itself... I think the little "cocoons" are called slubs or something... but I find it easier to knit a yarn like this along with a thin, smooth yarn. Otherwise your gauge will be all over the place. Good luck!
