Hey Roma!
It can be..but what you have to remember is that a lil goes a long way! The resin

I use cost me about $20..but I can get a TON of pendants from it..and by a ton I mean probably 75 or more...

The rest is just your imagination and what you can find to put in the resin!

Molds you can find either online (which can be pricey) or Hobby Lobby has a mold with a few different jewelry sizes and shapes for about $4.

That's what it is..epoxy resin..Castin Craft is the most popular..and Environtex Lite I think it's called...

I actually don't see the mold on the Hobby Lobby site..but you can go to http://www.sherrihaab.com/index.php

She has great resin molds..

Resin is really toxic and hard to work with, and when i was in school i took 4 mold making and casting classes, so i am no newbie. Mixing it is a science, it has to be exact or it wont set up right, i have some jewelry i made and it took FOREVER to set. It has such strong fumes i could feel my brain cells dying. I had to seal the resin because every time anyone touched it their finger prints would appear all over. I used polyurethane to seal it, which works the best out of a few other craft sealers I tried. Plus its very expensive. I mean if you make really tiny stuff, like quarter sized, i guess its not bad, but i was making some big pendants (so i could embed some neat stuff into it).

so resin looks great, but its sorta tricky to do, I am sure you will do fine with it, just be warned, do it outside, get amounts correct, use gloves, don't be disappointed if the first few don't come out great, Just keep at it till ya get it!

We tried out resin the other week but it went really badly for us. It didn't set and then it started to turn yellow and still, to this day, it hasn't set. Any idea why?

Is there any resin that's easy to work with and does anyone know of a good first project?

I would say it might not have been mixed right, but if you wait a few more weeks (i know its a pain) you can handle it with gloves and seal it, which should help.

I'm not sure what kind of resin you guys are using..but my resin is no where near what you guys are explaining. I use (among other things) EnviroTex Lite...and also a resin you can buy at Lowe's for about $20 (that one has lasted me forever) You aren't wanting professional grade resin. What you are wanting is the resin you can cover tables with.

Also remember, resin takes a long time to cure. You are supposed to layer your resin pouring if pouring something a lil thicker. My blue heart on here took about 2 days to fully cure. If you remove your piece too early, it's a sticky gooey mess.

All resin has toxicity to it. I pour mine is a well ventilated room and I'm fine. It doesn't leave a smell in my house. Always use gloves as well. Resin is a sticky mess and I'm sure you don't want the chemicals leaking into your skin.

I don't think if you have mixed your resin correctly, that you have to wait weeks for it to cure. (I'm sure maybe a huge piece). My teal resin heart is about 2 inches. Most of my resin pieces range from 3/4 to 3 inches. The smaller pieces cure in about 24 hours..the larger ones..about two days. I place them inside of a storage bin where they won't move or be disturbed.

after you've poured the layered resin, and let it cure, how do you make the hole, for the wire so you can hang the pendant on a necklace?

Me and my friend Klio [who has recently joined CO+K] have been wanting to work with resin, and I have the same question as Chase.

What about the hole? lol.

I'm SO interested in making pendants and stuff. I want to make a bunch for things for school Happy
