Before/After furniture

I am looking to remodel some of my furniture because I'm not really happy with it and want to LOVE it. My house is comfy but doesn't reflect me as strongly as I would like it to. Has anyone refurbished old furniture and have any tips?

Good idea...I am currently making a pair of shelves to go on my wall. I need ALOT more room to display my goodies.
Then I am going to sand a cheap fiberboard amoire I got at Target and paint that..Hopefully it won't look as cheap and banged up as it does now.
