Hippies: How To Be One.

Katrina: I must add this little bit, this isn't in any way intended to be nasty to anybody. It's just that your final comment struck me, she's not really forcing her opinion on anyone, she's not saying "be a hippie or be damned!!" etc etc etc.

I think her intention was to inform anyone who was thinking of becoming a hippie or wanted to know a bit more about it or just looking for some guidance.

Everyone has their own opinion, I believe that this is just one way of being hippie. I personally don't dress like a rock chick and I probably don't really act like one, but inside I feel so much like a rock chick!! You don't have to dress or act a certain way to feel or be classed a certain way.

The only bit I disagree with is the bit about drugs. I don't mean this to sound mean but I feel that almost encouraging it isn't a good idea. I'm not going to get all high and mighty because I have never touched illegal drugs and I never will, and I don't want to get into a massive debate about the rights and wrongs of legal and illegal drugs.

I wouldn't even encourage others to smoke and drink, it's not just illegal drugs I'm talking about here.

Just my thoughts...

Also P.S to Violetta: I just read the bit about meat!! I totally dig that, I eat meat - sorry folks - I don't eat a lot of meat simply because I dislike it, I mainly stick to chicken and sometimes pork, I'll have turkey at Christmas that's about it. I could never be a veggie... although I really LOVE some meat substitutes like veggie burgers = YUMMY YUMMY IN MY TUMMY!!

Wow, I honestly never thought this would take off like this!

To clear a few things up:

-They're not rules. It's my opinion. They're just guidelines of what I know.
-Neutrals vs. bright colors: It doesn't matter. Some people might prefer neutral, others bright. Personally, I like neutrals.
-I know I can't be like a hippie from the 60's or 70's. I know things have changed. In my short 15 years, I've seen so many things change. I'm still confused about all this new technology! If you gave me an iPad, I would't know how to use it! I barely know how to operate my DVD player.
-I can't buy a glass bong; I'm underage. A couple people I know have glass pipes. I don't smoke out of plastic often. I know it's unhealthy.
-I don't care if people eat meat. I just prefer that they don't.

Again, I'm just stating what I know. Sorry if I offended anybody. |:

Hi Hot Coco. Bless you sweetie you are only 15. Some of us lived through hippy years and some bits wern't that brilliant.
It's good that you are looking at different ways to live your life. The best 'old lady' advice I can you is to find your own way, don't be pressured by peer groups to be someone you arn't. If you don't like something your friends want you to do tell them. I've learnt that I gained more respect for just being me.
Many blessings and travel your own road and enjoy your youth x

Sheila is right, especially the last part. I still feel and probably look 16 but with a blink of my eye I'm 21. I could never imagine what I would be like at this age. Enjoy your youth while you can, it goes very very fast. Also, whether you like school or not, enjoy that while you can, there will be days where you wish you were back again. I don't wish it alot but sometimes, with enjoying yourself with friends and stuff...

So first off I'd like to say sorry about my first post sounding snarky, I think would be the word. I relized later how it sounded but then the internet was all 'nooo I am not gona let you go back there.'

I just found that last line kind of funny, like how most religions (that I know of and know every little of) arn't really sopose to push it on other people. But they keep coming to my door >->

I think it is kind of cool you want to be a hippie, I like how you are neutral to what people eat. Thats all cool, I mean your young what you'll like changes a bit as time goes on. Most of our world is recycled fashion anyway. I am waiting for the S curve corset to come back in style. :p

The only thing is please stop buring things in plastic. I am sure you could get a person to buy you rolling papers, hell I've hear the pages from a bible work or tracing paper basicly the same thing. Also I think you can make a pipe out of a tin can if you tried. But really if you can't buy your own stuff you should wait, I think. ..... though I started drinking at the age of ......... 16? and I turn 20 in a couple months.

yes, Sheila has words of wisdom Happy
I grew up in a hippie environment, and I don't think it will ever be the same...it was very much "the spirit of the age"( Sheila, you too may remember Hawkwind) and things are different now.
They were good times and I have fond memories, we travelled around Europe for a while in a camper van, and my friend's older sister was camped out at the peace camp at Faslane. I had a smelly Afghan coat and fringed jeans. Then I got older, got a job, husband, house kids etc but even with all the responsiblities I have always lived with respect for others, nature and the environment, and strive for love, peace and harmony in my life.
Coco, you are young and will try out lots of different things until you eventually settle into yourself, and that will come by living and learning along the way...have a happy journey through life and I wish you love and peace.

what is a hippie really? to each is own. Iam glad we can all be original in a world of mass produced, everythings been done 10 times over. Youre uniqueness is what truly sets you apart from eveyone else no matter what title you give yourself.

o.O

"Men, leather or army jackets are fantastic."
Riiight. Army = love and peace at it's best.

Plus, wearing real leather so meets your own sentence "...and hippies are against animal cruelty!"

Samsquanch ~ You're the negative one here! Everyone is entitled to their opinions on these boards and we don't have to 'brown nose' the original poster. I understand you might be friends or know Hot Coco but there is no need to bash others opinions and/or criticisms.

This is quite a controversial thread to start with (not got a problem with it, just stating...), so for you to come in and use that language at someone when you have no right to tell them to go, is crazy! We're a tight community on here and I don't think I've ever seen a post like yours on here before!

Well said Ruby.

I agree...well said Ruby. There is no need for verbal abuse. I personally think it shows a lack of respect, emotional intelligence and ability to find a more suitable way to communicate opinions. Samquanch you would do well to invest in a dictionary, lexicon of difficult words or a thesaurus!!!!
This is a site visited by younger people (children) too. Please be aware that they may visit the boards too and kerb your enthusiasm for profanity.

Um... Did you just create an account here specifically to make that post? It's good to see you're supporting your friend but Sheila A. is right, there are kids on here who might be intimidated by your tone.

Hot Coco - Please don't feel got at or put off by this thread. You have some nice ideas about hippy style and activism. If you have a look at some of the craft projects, I'm sure you'll find tons of things you'd like to make and I'd love to hear about some of the things you make yourself. It's a nice site and community here. I think people might have been a bit critical - there's such a massive age range on here that it is sometimes hard to tell where someone is coming from or their tone from their posts sometimes. Let's start again ^^

Leather - I'm a veggie, but have no problem with wearing second hand/ cast-off leather.

Thanks Bryony and Sheila.

If you think this post is offensive in anyway then message Violetta or myself (moderators) and we will remove the post - I was going to but thought I might have been over-reacting...?

Samsquanch ~ I suggest you edit your post to be a bit more 'respectable' then maybe you might get your point across ;)
