PETA?

Raven W - look at what happened in the UK. PETA released some non-native predators from labs and fur farms. Kind, people might think. But basically, because they were randomly released they then lived and bred on our riverbanks; now our newts, otters, water voles and water rats (not to mention certain birds) are near extinction because they are being predated by a powerful predator that they didn't evolve to evade. PETA still maintain this is ethical treatment of animals; the ruination of a unique ecosystem in exchange for an ill thought out grand gesture.

Yes, the mink problem is a huge issue here. Water voles (the actual basis for Ratty in Wind in the Willows) in particular are on the edge of extinction due to the release and subsequent spread of the mink and we are having to trap and kill them in order to save our native fauna. Stoats and weasels are a part of the ecosystem here, mink are not.

It's no good just looking at the immediate result (animals freed by PETA yay!) if you have ignored the long-term damage (same animals wipe out native species...). That is not activism. Though it does remind me a little too much of party politics.
