help me remodel!

so finally 1 year after moving in i am throwing myself into the remodel of our home. The previous owners applied some kind of rough faux plaster to the walls in the dining room. It looks awful, I want to take it off but I don't know how! Also we have some crappy fake brick on the walls, which are real old fashioned plaster. How do i remove that without causing too much damage?

maybe if you could post some pictures? Joci works as a painter-house remodel-er and if I show him pics maybe he could give some advice.

to cover the artex in our house, we ended up putting plaster over it to get a new smooth layer, rather than trying to take it off Happy x
