Don't be afraid to shop at dollar stores. The best before dates and brands are the same as in the grocery store, which sometimes charge three times more for the same item. Hell, I work in a dollar store, and I pay a grand total of $5 for lunch and dinner if I grab something off the shelf. That includes a drink, crackers and cheese for lunch, and two cans of tomato soup, a box of croutons, and a bag of uncooked macaroni for the next night.

Take in your empty cans and bottles. Here, our bottle deposit on cans of pop just went up to 10 cents apiece, and plastic bottles are up to 12 cents each. You pay it in the stores, and you lose out on money you paid and can get back if you just toss them out.

Don't go out drinking with friends. Go out for a cup of coffee instead. You'll spend a hell of a lot more on alcohol than you will on a couple cups of coffee and a plate of nachos at a restaurant.

Plan your meals a week or so in advance, make your list according to the menu and then shop only by that list! that way there are no unnecessary purchases.

When you go to grocery store, get only special priced things. (Veges, meats, milk, juice, anything)
Then go back to home and search recipe by using those.
If you decide what to cook, you may have to purchase something expensive on that day.
Get cheap thing and then decide what you can make by that.
In that way, you can expand your recipe variation.

Our food budget is $400 in a month for 2 adults.
We are doing alright! We also eat out under this budgetHappy

- make a list before you go shopping and stick to it (stops impulse buys)
- buy fruit & veg from market at the end of the day when they reduce the prices
- buy clothes, jewellery & books from charity shop
- Use local library for CDs, DVDs & Books. Also keep an eye out if they are selling any old stock. I picked up a book today for 10p Happy
- buy pizza bases/ciabattas and make your own pizzas
- buy toiletries and household stuff from poundshops
- buy make up from local market
- One friend uses Skype for international calls
- If like me you pass a coffee shop on the way to work then invest in a good coffee pot & filter coffee & flask. It takes 2 minutes to make and tastes as good Happy

Also last one .... use a moisturiser instead of eye make up remover. It does just as good a job.
