Root beer/Ginger ale?

I'm trying out some Butterbeer recipes and most of them say I have to use root beer. Now, as far as I know, we don't have root beer over here. However, we do have Canada Dry ginger ale.

Could I replace the root beer with ginger ale? Or is it something entirely different?

It's very different, lol root beer is like sasparilla. It's molasses based not ginger based like ginger ale. I don't think it would work very well to swap root beer for ginger ale.

I don't like root beer any more except for a root beer float maybe once a year. I love ginger ale but only seem to have it when I'm sick...

anyways have you ever tried Cock N Bull Ginger Beer? It's a ginger ale/root beer mix you can get at the grocery store (at least here in Cali). It's very authentic flavored so its actually a little hard to drink do to it's intense taste but I bet it would taste good in a butter beer malt. Happy

I'll look for it, but I doubt we have it. Happy Is there anything I could replace it with? Or should I just drop the recipes that require root beer? :p

Hmmm... Check the baking aisle for root beer extract and maybe add that with sugar and club soda? If you can't find anything maybe Dr. Pepper would work as a substitute Tongue

I found a recipe on here that calls for cream soda. Here's the link: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/butterbeer
