I always put one ice cube on each eye. I massage with it and yes it gets red and you might look like a tomato but it works. I to make it less painful I put it in a piece of cloth and make a bundle and put it under my eyes. Now, I'm used to it and I can bear the ice cold feel, but it really really works. What I do to look less like a tomato after im done is I put on a warm water soaked flannel and put it for my eyes for about ten minutes or so. I do it everyday and it has worked! Happy

Also put on moisturizer after you're done. Usually for me, it becomes dry and crackly and then it leads to rashes for me because I'm prone to them. Do put on moisturizer even if it's normal and not crackly because the rashes led me to darker under eye circle.

I use those tubes that have metal roller balls in the end, keep it in the fridge so it's cool and use some light mint or other liquids in the tube.
