Hair Foiling?

Have any of you ever foiled your own hair?
Any tips?

I just put lowlights in my hair and tried to foil it, and it didnt work out so well.
I lost my hair color brush applier thingy and had to use an old tooth brush.

I usually do an ok job foiling it, but its super hard.
