does vaseline really make your eyelashes longer?

This is to the shaving legs people...(sorry, not about vaseline and eyelashes!)

I use men's razors. The Mach 3 Turbos. They last much longer. I think the razor companies know girls use razors 3 times more than men, so they make ours wimpy so they rust faster. Also, a little secret...

If you want to erase your hair...down there...you can't use Nair or those other creams because it burns. You CAN use this stuff that I found in the men's section though. It's a powder called Magic. It's marketed for black men and is usually in that section. You just mix it with water and apply. Scrape it off after a minute or two with a credit card or something and it's all gone. No burn.

Just follow the directions and don't let it sit too long. ;)

Sorry I hijacked your post and changed the topic. lol

I think so...and this is why (this isn't exactly my brightest moment in life): For some reason a few years back, I cut off my eyelashes (I don't remember what the heck I was thinking!!!). The deed was done and there was no going back. They were blunt and just went straight. It was terrible!
So I started researching, and heard about vaseline making them longer. So I started using it every night (I just cleaned off an old mascara wand, and put a thick coat on my lashes). I don't remember how long it took for them to grow back (not very long), but now my lashes are longer and fuller then before.

When it comes right down to it, it's all in the growth cycle of your own lashes.

As a professional skincare consultant, I HAVE to interject.

Vaseline is nothing but petroleum. It does nothing for you except block moisture, etc. from getting in or out of your skin. I don't recommend it for anything, except perhaps locking a good, moisturizing serum into seriously dry skin, or as an ingredient in a sunblock. (The mineral oil/petroleum should be toward the end of the list only--the sunscreen should be high in active ingredients, NOT mineral oil or petroleum!)

Additionally, since petroleum/mineral oil block moisture from getting in, by using it in any hair products, including on your eyelashes, you are risking drying out the hairs and making them unhealthy in the process. This will result in the hairs/lashes breaking off, not lengthening! Please don't do this; whoever told you that Vaseline can help grow eyelashes was either seriously misinformed, a Vaseline salesperson, or an enemy. :-s

Now that I've read this entire thread:

The same goes for baby oil! It does nothing for you, except what I said about the petroleum. Use olive oil instead--I use it to take off my makeup, and it also helps the eyelashes. There are actual vitamins, etc. in olive oil that help keep your skin, hair, and nails healthy. Not so for petroleum/Vaseline and mineral oil/baby oil.

So I have had my eye lashes tinted. Shit works....awesome. Do get a test done to see if you are alergic to the paste. When I had it done it was a natural veggie dye. My freind (who is my hairdresser and a make up artist) just put some vaseline under my eye lashes so it wouldn't dye my skin then put a half cotton pad to my eye lashes, I closed my eyes, paste was applied. wait how ever lone then all is wiped off and Bam!

Eye lashes look fuller and longer. Last a month or more. Also you can just buy clear mascara which also makes your eyes lashes look longer with out black ness getting every where. (and can be used to tame eyebrows.)

Trimming your eyelashes like trimming your hair can help for your eyelashes to grow back longer so I've read. I've read that vaseline can make your eyelashes grow longer but I just wondn't trust it anywhere near my sensitive eyes. I suggest using something natural like Olive Oil or Vitamin E oil to moisturize your eyelashes before bed as long as you wash it off in the morning.

when it comes to your eyes be careful, in beauty school we were taught to touch the eye area with our ring finger because it was the weakest, did less damage when rubbing in creams. your eyelashes are on a system just like your brows, they fall out and you get new ones weekly. you really have to be blessed with long lashes but clinique carries a lash extender that rocks, I tried it once with my daughter, lashes so long they touched the lenses on my shades

OMG, I would never trim my eyelashes. :-P I'm not a hair guru, but I hear the trimming is only so the hair doesn't get split ends and snap off--which, obviously, doesn't do anything good for hair you are trying to grow out. ;)

Eyelashes, though? I've never seen an eyelash get a split end. All I've seen is eyelashes accidentally get cut or pulled out, that never grow back properly. :-s

I'm actually really interested in reading that article that says to trim your lashes, because I really don't understand why they would say that. :-P

I'm with Rachie - trimming just gets rid of tatty ends. Cutting gives the impression of making the hair thicker because it blunts the ends, but that's all.

The idea of scissors snipping around an eye is quite scary!

I wouldn't trust a pair of scissors near my eyes either! But the myth of cutting hair or shaving it off causing hair to grow back faster or thicker is still out there. Consider that you shave your under arms and legs every day and have new growth the next day. But if you let your under arm and leg hair grow out they probably wouldn't grow very long after the first week or two.

In Cambodia, children's heads are shaved when they are toddlers to have it grow in thicker. In Africa, there is a tribe that rips the hair out of a young woman's scalp when she hits puberty (really wish I knew the logic behind that one Ouch!). Women in America are afraid of shaving thick, dark arm hair because they think it will grow back thicker or darker (that's a total myth because I've been shaving mine since I was 14 and if anything when it starts to grow in its lighter).

But then there are people who shave their heads or their eyebrows so long that the hair stops growing back. The truth of the matter is, hair is nothing more than dried dead skin cells and it will continue to grow even after you die. Understanding how it works though-- don't think that's even possible because it's different for everyone.

LOL--the whole "hair grows after you die" thing really freaks me out. xD

lol I know! It kind of reminds me of those old barbie dolls- whose hair you could cut and then pull it and it would grow back super long. My friend and I cut open one of those dolls heads once and there was a big ball of hair inside.

Hi!
I was operated cuz I had a vision problem and my eyelashes fell but didn´t grow anymore so my granny told me to put extra virgin olive oil in my eyeashes at night using a swap and it works
it makes eyelashes longer

I did the vaseline thing for 3 months once and I can't say it did anything amazing, I have long thick eyelashes anyway so maybe thats why?

I dye my lashes once a month now, easier than keep using mucky masacra all the time.
