Hello! I'm Katy. I'm an artist AND I'm a life coach for artists. I'm so passionate about connecting with people through my work. I strive to create an unforgettable experience for them when they view it. I'm also very passionate about coaching and self-improvement. My second passion saved my first <3. I struggled with procrastination, anxiety, and fear around my art so much that I gave up on being an artist in 2016. I discovered coaching and found my way back and now having the most incredible relationship with my work than ever before.

Have you always been creative and artistic?

Yeah! I remember being super young, like 6 or 7 and I had learned how to draw a horse and it totally looked like a horse, and I was hooked. I was drawing horses all the time! haha. But I wasn't always consistent. Doing art mainly for validation made it very difficult to keep up when I felt like I wasn't getting enough so it was a tumultuous on and off relationship. I hired a life coach in 2018 to really help me with my mindset so that I could create art from my heart and have an amazing relationship with it.

How would you describe the style of your work?

UGH I struggled for my entire art career with this question. If you asked me a few years ago how I would describe my style, I would've said "I'm a copycat, I don't have one, I don't know who I am." A year ago, I decided that whatever comes out of my hand is my style. I just acted as if I had one without questioning it and strangely, I now feel like I have a pretty distinct style. I love using bright fun colors. I like doing bold art with a graphic background but really, it depends on what I'm trying to convey, what I want the viewer to feel. My style may shift somewhat however, I know that no matter what, there is a Katy-ness to it that I just don't worry about as much anymore.

What’s in your pencil case and what’s your favorite tool?

Hah! I don't have a pencil case. I had such bad shiny object syndrome when it comes to art supplies that I went full minimal and got rid of everything. I was doing only digital work (photoshop and wacom tablet) for a while to remove any decisions. I've recently bought a Micron pen to draw with in a new sketchbook so starting to reintroduce traditional work again. My favorite tool all time is Photoshop, she my bae.

Who is your favorite superhero?

Ooooohhh... *deep voice* Batman. Fo sho. I just love that universe. Oh wait, I also really love Deadpool. I have a very immature sense of humor.

If you could have one super power what would it be?

Time-stopping --> It's the only resource we can't get more of.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Oh man, I mean, I've been really looking for inspiration all around me. Being super present in the world and being observant. Noticing the beautiful things that are right in front of us. Like how the morning light shines on the potted plant at an ultra cute cafe by the rice field or the wheezing tail lights of scooters weaving all around the cars like red fireflies during night time traffic (I live in Bali). There's so much around us!... But Pinterest is good too.

Who are your favorite artists or comic book authors?

LOISH, ANNA CATTISH, BAYLEE JAE, MATTEO DE LONGIS... queens. These artists rocked my world at different points in my life. Love them. so. much.
