Tell us about your space
My sewing space is on the upstairs floor of my house. My thread, sewing table and pressing area are at the landing at the top of the stairs and you find my design wall and cutting table as you go down the hallway.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
I like to hang up colorful things like color cards and artwork from my kids and friends.
How do you keep organized?
I like bins and buckets. I toss things in a bin under my cutting table to get it out of the way when I need to work. Then later when I’m in a cleaning mood I deal with it.
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
Put it where you use it. Keep only the things you use in your workspace. I have some crafty storage in the basement where I keep supplies I don’t use much. This keeps them out of the way, which I need, because clutter really demotivates me.
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
My favorite possession in my sewing studio is a key given to me by a stranger at Burning Man. He told me it was the key to success. I don’t tend to put my own creations up.
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I have a folder called “ideas” and when I have ideas that can’t be acted on right now I just tuck a drawing or notepaper in there. Ideas that I’m ready to work on get moved to a different folder. Big ideas like a book or a Craftsy class get their own folder that I keep nearby and work on regularly.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I don’t usually have to look! More often I’m having to figure out which ones to prioritize. When I want new ideas I usually try to dream up different ways to use a tool or technique. I aim for a lot of ideas and try to just draw everything that comes to mind instead if editing.
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
I would like having more windows for more natural light. I’d prefer to be able to get farther back from the design wall to see it more clearly. And I’d say a larger pressing space would make pressing way more enjoyable. But overall I am lucky to have this great space!
