The Great British Sewing Bee: From Stitch to Style

Shelf 5156tkevhol

We chat to Wendy, give you a chance to win the book and learn how-to sew a Peplum Dress.

I’ve been sewing all my life, starting by making clothes and bedding for my Sindy doll as a young child. When 11, I customised some trousers, adding flame appliques up the legs – I thought I looked the bee's knees! I’ve been lucky enough to turn my passion into my career and have edited leading sewing magazines, written 17 books, presented 11 DVDs as well as shows on Create and Craft TV. I’ve even sewn a tot’s dress in 30 seconds for the BBC Get Creative challenge last year!

I am originally from Toronto,Canada where I studied Animation at Sheridan College. I always grew up surrounded by art, my brother always did art and my dad is a fine artist as well. I graduated in 2011 and started working in Toronto and freelancing for various studios for about a year. Since thenI am now living in LA, California and currently working at JibJab studios designing on a preschool TV show produced for Netflix. In my spare time I love to draw, travel, and spend time with my 12 year old labrador.

Come behind the scenes at Pretty Wee Things for a #KitchenTour and see Krissy's kitchen in Queensland, Australia.

My favourite part of our current kitchen is definitely the open planned design. I love to be able to spend time in the kitchen while interacting with my family and guests. Our current kitchen has taught me a lot about what I like and don't like which makes the building/design side easier when it comes to creating our dream home (which we are currently doing!).

Moira creates a boho inspired 70's style party for today's #DIYTheParty

I have picked 12 items which I think set out the atmosphere for a boho 70s style party. The lights & candles, comfy and quirky cushions and multicoloured throw all set the style. The food is easy to prepare and eat and the salsa and dip are handy to go with those little snacks one always has at a party; the ice cream desert is both modern and welcome after fairly spicey food and all washed down with the 'elderflower champagne'.

Come behind the scenes at Palindrome Dry Goods for a #CraftRoomTour to see Hannah's studio/closet/guest room in Charleston, West Virginia.

All the color! My closet is in this room, and does not have closet doors, so between my clothes, and all the fabric, and thread, this room is an explosion of color.

Jayne recreates the look of Hermione Granger from Harry Potter for this week's #DIYTheLook

I was in my early twenties when Harry Potter hit, and it changed my life. Not only were they great stories (I was a librarian, so they changed my job too) but Hermione was a real, down to earth, clever young women who proved that your smarts could get you anywhere and usually save the guys along the way! In my head she was not big on super style (who could be with that hair!), but she'd want to be warm, considered and maybe a little quirky. She'd also not want to get in trouble with Prof. McGonnogall!
