How would you describe your style?

Wow, this is a tough question! I try not to label my style, because I don't want to ever feel limited when it comes to clothing. I might wear a vintage-inspired dress with a full skirt and petticoat one day, and an edgy short black skirt paired with a leather accented top the next.

Most recently, however, I have been really drawn to quirky clothing. I adore novelty prints and bright colors, and I love that my wardrobe is unique. I have always loved to sew, and this past year I have made it a goal to sew more clothing for myself. It's a great way to get a custom look!

What's your favourite piece in your wardrobe?

My favorite piece is an adorable dress I sewed (using Simplicity's 1419 pattern) for a video game convention. I typically cosplay when I go to events like PAX or Comic Con, but last year I decided to make a Nintendo-themed dress instead! I haven't featured it on my blog yet, but I'll be sure to post it soon.

Who are your style icons?

I don't think I have many celebrity style icons. Instead, I find that I am most often inspired by confident individuals I see on the streets, on Instagram, or on the blogs I follow.

When I was growing up I didn't have a lot of self-confidence, and I dressed in a way that made me blend in. It wasn't until I graduated from college and married my husband that I started to feel more comfortable with standing out. When I see someone rocking and totally owning their personal style, I feel more inspired to do the same.

Do you have any favourite designers?

I love Oscar de la Renta for gorgeous, feminine designs with beautiful details. Kate Spade and Betsey Johnson have colorful and unique handbags and clothing. I also adore Carolina Herrera, Roberto Cavalli, Elie Saab, Nanette Lepore, Anna Sui, Christopher Kane, and Alexander McQueen. Although I wouldn't necessarily wear all of the clothes from these designers, I love their creativity and artistry.

Where are your favourite places to shop for new clothes?

I can't get enough of ModCloth! The selection and variety is wonderful, and I love that they carry a lot of interesting and unique clothing and accessories. They are my all-time favorite retailer! I also love to shop for vintage-inspired clothing at Unique Vintage or Lindy Bop, and I get a lot of wardrobe staples at Macy's.

Do you make or customise your outfits?

YES! When I don't have time to sew a new dress or skirt, I love to make my own accessories. It allows me to wear something that no one else has, and I feel proud when I receive compliments.

Do you have any great tips for mixing up and personalising an outfit?

Style is all about wearing pieces you are drawn to. Mixing classic garments with ones that are a bit more special will help to create a look that is uniquely you.

To help me mix up my wardrobe, I use a closet organization app. It allows me to easily browse through all of the clothes, shoes, and accessories I own. Using the app has helped me to be more creative with the items I already own, and I try to never wear the exact same outfit twice.
