Learn how-to knit a Popcorn Stitch, Bobble Stitch and Brioche Stitch in #ShopShowcase with WEBS - America's Yarn Store in Northampton, Massachusetts.

How did you get started?

Steve's mom, Barbara, founded WEBS in 1974 in the basement of their family home. WEBS started as weaving studio where students could come to learn to weave. Unlike other studios, students were allowed and able to take their looms home to practice (and fall in love with their looms). Over the years te business grew and expanded. Steve & I took over in 2002. Steve's Dad retired and his Mom opted to continue to weave, teach and work with our long time weaving customers.

Where are you located?

We are located in Northampton, Massachusetts which is in Western Massachusetts. We are about 2 hours due west of Boston. We are blessed to live in a beautiful part of our state and to be a part of an ecletic but progressive community.

Which products do you specialise in?

We specialize in knitting, crochet, weaving and spinning yarns, fibers, tools and equipment. We have a 5,000 square foot retail store with an attached 11,000 sq foot warehouse. The store itself carries all the well known brands along with some smaller companies. The warehouse is where good yarn comes to spend its twilight years. It is packed with closeouts, discontinued lines and colorways, etc.

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

My favorite product(s) are definitely our Valley Yarns. These are our own branded yarns for knitting/crochet and weaving. Art & Barbara began sourcing yarns back in the mid-80's but Steve & I branded them and expanded them. We have over 30 yarns across knitting/crochet & weaving.

What's on the stereo?

Sirius XM so anythig goes! Depends on the make-up of the store staff on any given day and the mood! Like Northampton, we are an ecletic bunch!

Where else should we visit in your area?

Downtown Northampton is absolutely worth a visit - great shops, great restaurants - eerything needed to make a great day trip that includes a visit to WEBS!

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

Yes! Our year is broken into three semesters and we typically offer about 60 classes each semester, although fewer in the sumer. We always have guest teachers, special events, trunk shows, etc. There is never a dull moment at WEBS All of our classes and events can be viewed and registered for on our website.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

After 41 years in business, we remain true to our roots as a local yarn store. We have grown, no question and we have a vibrant on-line business but at our core, we are a local yarn store. Whether shopping with us in person, on-line or over the phone, you will always get a real person who has the same passion as you do for fiber!
