Come behind the scenes at Emily Play's French home to see where she gets creative in her gorgeous livingroom craft space.
Even though the flat is pretty much facing north the livingroom is really bright with a its large windows and I guess that it's the most enjoyable thing about it. I also really like the layout of the room that allowed us to define several areas within a pretty small space : the main area with the coach-coffee table-computer desk, the dining/crafting area facing the kitchen and the bar area.
Tell us about your space
As we only have a two room apartment I've tried to make the living room convertible in a craft room with just few adjustments. I can open the dining table and double its surface to lay and cut fabric (well sometimes I just move the coffee table and lay on the floor it depends). I used to store my sewing machine in the cupboard but I do find it way more easy to have it on hand, so I've decided to make our previous coffee table (that my boyfriend made and that we still love even if it was becoming a bit small for us) my little craft station on wheels. I keep the sewing machine and swift winder on it and my wip in the baskets. I can grab everything I need pretty quickly whenever I feel like sewing and put everything back in that nice and compact storage once I'm finished. If I want to knit I just take the basket with my knitting wip in it and install it next to me on the coach, chairs, bed, or even in the garden.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
When we moved the first thing we did was to paint all the walls white. They used to be yellow and it was really not working for us. Then we have furnished the place with a mix of vintage/refurbished/diy stuffs like the orange chairs or the wood boxes shelves, and store bought pieces.
How do you keep organized?
As I sayed our flat is pretty small (39m²) so we are trying our best not too overload it with too much stuff. I'm a messy person at heart so I have to work hard to keep things organized. I think that what helps me with that is to have a specific space dedicated to a specific kind of stuffs. For example we (I) have a lot of shoes so we've put a shoe rack next to the door. It is not the most beautiful thing in the world but at least it is where the shoe go no questions. If the shoes overflow the shoe rack then it's time to do some sorting. Having a small space helps you downsize and always re-evaluate what you have and what you need.
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
Same goes for the crafts supplies, I try to have a spot for everything. We've put a long shelf above the door of the bedroom so that I can store my yarn in clear containers and see what I've got, fabrics go on the last shelf of the bedroom's cupboard, sewing machine/wool and swift winder/wip stay in the little craft station in the livingroom and miscellaneous knitting and sewing equipments are stored in pretty baskets or wood boxes here and there.
But unfortunately I have a hard time keeping it tidy as my stashs usually overflow their dedicated spaces...
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
We're real homebodies and have enjoyed furnishing this flat for the past two years so there are many things we love in here : the 8 euros bar that perfectly fits that weird angled corner of the room, the throw on the coach that I took from my grandparents house and of course the things we've made together (well Nico is the real handyman I'm just handing him the tools) like the little coffee table/craft station or the plant stand next to the coach (both diy we saw on A Beautiful Mess).

I'm a big fan of Pinterest boards to keep my inspirations organized.

I'm a big blog reader, I follow a tone of them!
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
Well first it would be to have an actual room separated from our living room! Second would be storage, storage everywhere. And light, a bright space to sew and knit all day.
