Cook some Dandy Man corn & zucchini fritters and savoury waffles with Dandelion & Driftwood in Hendra, Australia.

How did you get started?

With owners, Peter and Penny Wolff, they threw open the doors of Dandelion and Driftwood in October 2010, when the Brisbane Coffee Scene was very raw and developed a concept store that offered more than just espresso based coffee. The Wolffs introduced a brew bar that focused on multiple brew styles including chemex, syphon, cold drip, aeropress and trifecta, with multiple choices of beans too. There was nothing else like this in Brisbane. Using all their acquired knowledge, training, experience and industry ingenuity, they really focused on empowering the consumer, educating them on Specialty Coffee, Single Origin Beans and Blends. Many Coffee Shops/Cafes have now modelled themselves off this unique approach and this business still today continues to inspire many operators.

Where are you located?

We are located in a quaint little shop on Gerler Road, Hendra in Brisbane’s inner northern suburbs. Approximately 10 minutes from the city centre.

What are your specialities?

Our specialties are coffee and tea. Serving all brewing methods from espresso to chemex, syphon, trifecta, aeropress and cold drip. We consistently offer our two famed House Blends, Dandelion and Driftwood, as well as two rotating single origins on the espresso & brew bar. We also pride ourselves on educating our customers, extending people’s palate and enhancing the experience of drinking coffee. This is the intention of the tasting flight at Dandelion & Driftwood. Coffee education in a cup –two piccolos or espressos to accommodates those who prefer black and those preferring milk. Tasting the two teaches your palate to distinguish between the different flavours of D&D’s house blends or the two Single Origins on offer that day.

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

Penny – The Dandy Man. The first dish on our menu and without a doubt one of the most delicious featuring our homemade zucchini fritters. Peter – The First Crack. You simply can’t go past a savoury.waffle with bacon and a hickory smoked honey! Enough said!

What's on the stereo?

Peter’s eclectic taste in music sees the latest and greatest transmit over our soundwaves. Right now - Icelandic singer-songwriter and musician, Ásgeir, and we'll roll through and eclectic mix before the day's out.

Where else should we visit in your area?

Queen of Pops! Our new hole in the wall café where we showcase our latest industry innovation – caffeinated pops and nitro cold brew coffee and tea. The Pops replicate the hot in cup experience, but it’s frozen on a stick. A real kick! This is our first concept store and is yet another way for customers to experience their daily fix.

Do you host any special events?

We certainly do! High Teas, Baby and Bridal Showers, birthdays and the odd wedding or two.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

Across the two businesses we currently house some of the country’s finest Baristas with our Head Barista, Ellie, the 2014 Latte Art Champion and Kelsey (Head Barista at Queen of Pops) the 2014 Barista Champion. These lovely ladies have refined their skills under our in-house training and continue to serve premium specialty coffee at benchmark standards.
