Where was the workshop held and what was the venue like?

We meet at the Westside Regional branch of the Rapides Parish Library. We use one of the meeting rooms so we're able to be as noisy and as messy as we like. With it's convenient location and lots of free parking we enjoy meeting there.

Who’s in your group?

The number that attends varies from month to month, depending on what craft we will be doing. There is a core group of about 8 who regularly attend, though we have had as many as 20 at times. Everyone is welcome, so we've had men, women, and children of all ages.

What are the main crafts your group do?

As the leader of the group, I try to vary the crafts from month to month. I like to introduce the group to different crafts. This way they can try it out without having to buy lots of craft supplies that they may never use again. That being said, painting, sculpting and any garden craft has been the group's favorites.

Can anyone join and how should we sign up?

Anyone can join and are encouraged to do so. We have flyers out to promote the event each month and I love to see new faces along with the old ones! An interested person can simply show up or if seating is limited for a special craft they can call the Westside Regional Library at 318-442-2483 x1906 and reserve a spot.

What’s projects is everyone working on at the moment?

There are several women in the group who are quilters and knitters. One also volunteers at one of our antebellum homes and demonstrates crafts from that period. Others are into gardening, water colors and cosplay.

Where else should we check out when we’re in town?

There are a couple of neat quilt shops, Creative Quilting and Aunt Nell's Quilt Shop, Neat places to hang out with a cup of coffee are Tamp and Grind Coffee Shop and A Coffee Shop. A great pizza can be found at Wildwood Pizza.
As for quirky sites, we have lots! Be sure and check out the Kent House, the abandoned grounds of our Central State Hospital, a mental hospital. With it's beautiful decaying buildings and large oaks and magnolias it is an inspiring place. Our area has lots of museums, old homes and lots of history.

Where are the best places to buy craft supplies to bring to your group?

For yarn supplies there is The Needlecraft Shoppe, Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Walmart. Other crafts supplies can be found at Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Walmart as well.

Is there anything else we should know?
