How To Use Watercolors

Learn how-to use watercolor in your papercrafting with Peg from from Peg's Crafting Corner and create some watercolor cards and tags.

Step 1
For the card, begin by cutting a piece of watercolor paper that will fit the size of your card base. This card is a 5" x 7" card and the watercolor paper has been cut to 4" x 6".

Paint completely over the paper.
Step 3
While the paint is still wet drop salt across the painted areas and allow to completely dry.

Once dry, brush off the salt. Stamp your favorite image onto the piece.
Step 5
Notice how the background has a mottled look and to the entire look of the piece.

Use a die cut tag or a punched tag from the watercolor paper to make some fun treat bag ties, bookmarks or anything you enjoy.

Begin by spreading water over the entire tag using a clean paintbrush.
Step 7
Next, watercolor over the paper.

While the paint is still wet spritz some rubbing alcohol onto the tag. This can be a little tricky because if it's still too wet the paint will pull away from the alcohol and roll off. If it is too dry the affect won't be created. Just keep practicing until you get a look that you like.
Step 8
Once the tag is dry stamp your image onto the tag.

This is what a black watercolored tag looks like stamped with white ink.

For another look, wet the tag with water and then add the paint.

While the paint is still wet, spatter a paintbrush dipped into the rubbing alcohol over the tag.

Allow it to dry.

Stamp your image onto the tag.
