Come behind the scenes at A Charming Project and see Enid's craft room in San Francisco.

Large windows have been on my wish list for years, and I finally had the opportunity to find an apartment with floor to ceiling windows. The abundance of natural light in my space is borderline ridiculous! I can shoot photos in natural light all the way into the early evening, and I have plants and flowers that thrive better here than in any other space I’ve had before. When we first moved to the bay area from Los Angeles we live in a tiny hotel room for 5 months until we found our current apartment (living here is so expensive) so I am extremely thankful for every little inch of space, and glimmer of light I have.

Tell us about your space

My craft space is a 10 X 12 room, which also doubles as my home office, and our storage space. Everything but spray painting gets done in this room. When I’m not working my day job as a tech manager, I’m working on my DIY projects. Sitting all day makes me sleepy so I opted for a DIY standing desk (all parts from IKEA) so I can stand and easily move around the room gathering supplies for my projects.

What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?

I love going to my local farmer’s market and buying plants and flowers, which I sprinkle around the room (not, literally though). I think it keeps everything looking fresh and bright!

How do you keep organized?

I bought a planner to help keep me organized, and it’s lovely and on my desk right now, but I have yet to crack it open…so I guess this is a work in progress.

Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?

I love collecting colorful boxes, and really enjoy organizing supplies by type. I keep separate boxes for scissors, glue, yarn, fabric, and miscellaneous items. I keep items like sequence, confetti, and brads in candy tins I’ve collected. My boyfriend has gotten really good at finding my treats and eating them so I’ve gotten really good at hiding my treats in my craft supplies. I keep my felt fabric tidy by rolling it up, then I hide chocolate in them. So far they're safe!

Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?

I'm really digging my latest DIY yarn wall hanging! But I can't wait to start decorating for the fall so I'll definitely be creating some new project for this space really soon.

How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?

A friend of mine was moving, and gave me a colorful old window, so I propped it up on my desk and use it as an inspiration board. I mostly collect magazine clippings of color pallets, art, displays, and furniture. So it's basically turning into a wish list wall!

Where do you look for inspiration?

I used to look at Pinterest for a lot for inspiration, but just like a writer can’t read someone else’s books while writing their own novel, I’ve had to move away from using Pinterest as inspiration (though I'm still addicted in general) for fear of subconsciously copying someone else’s work! So lately, I’ve been checking out furniture, fashion, and art catalogs for inspiration but I’ve really taken to going into my favorite craft stores, picking up an item and just figuring out what I can make with it. I basically, shop as I go!

If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?

I live in a very 1960's building so I wish I had hard wood floors, and could paint the walls. I'd settle for a fun bohemian rug, and wall decals, but seriously now...this space is very much lacking a cappuccino machine!
