Knit some Tattoo You! Mittens and Kinetic Cowl with Darn Knit Anyway in Stillwater, Minnesota.

How did you get started?

My cousin Carly and I learned to knit from our grandmother, we called her Nanny Jean. She loved to knit and taught us to love it. When a job change came about for me, I decided to go for it and open a knit shop. I bought business plan software and talked to as many knit shops as I could to do research. I wrote the business plan, talked to a bank and they gave me a loan! Yahoo! It didn't take much convincing to get Carly to come along with me. That was 6 years ago and we are still going strong. Proudly teaching others to love to knit just like our Nanny Jean taught us.

Where are you located?

We are located in historic downtown Stillwater Minnesota. The birthplace of Minnesota. We are on a wild and scenic river called the St. Croix. It divides Minnesota and Wisconsin. The upper Midwest is a beautiful place and is cold in the winter. Perfect for knitters!

Which products do you specialise in?

We mainly sell yarn, all sorts of lovely yarn. We sell high end, hand dyed yarns as well as entry level acrylics. We aren't yarn snobs...we think there is a place for all yarns!

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

We are a flagship store for Quince & Company. We are proud to represent them in our state. The made in the USA yarn together with their pattern support is a great addition to our shop.

What's on the stereo?

We love 80's and 90's radio hits. Stuff we grew up listening too. We find our customers singing along!

Where else should we visit in your area?

Stillwater is a great town for dining. We have many restaurants that are award winning! And what could be better than a cocktail on a beautiful deck overlooking the St. Croix River?

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

Our class program is called Darn Knit University. We teach knitting, crochet, weaving, spinning, machine knitting as well as other things like digital label making, tatting and Ravelry photography.

Students who register for a DKU class get a student ID and everything! They student ID gets them a discount at our shop during the trimester. Flashing that ID gets them discounts and deals at other participating businesses on Main Street!

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We love that our shop is an important part of our community. We love our customers. We know that we are more than just a yarn shop.

Do you have a favorite craft, art or supply shop in your town that we should feature? Send us a message!
