City Guides

Take a crafty tour of the cities and hometowns of our members to discover their favorite shops, restaurants and inspiring hang-outs

Bristol, England •

The best thing about living in Bristol is its independent spirit and its funky street art which has transformed parts of the city into a huge outdoor art gallery. Street artist Banksy started off in Bristol and the city continues this legacy by welcoming street art and street art festivals such as See No Evil and UpFest.

Glasgow, Scotland •

The best thing about Glasgow is it is a big little city. Everything is so accessible and easy to get to. Even though it's a city, it's cheap to live in. The streets are full of people, but you're likely to bump into a friend along the way. There are so many events and activities to take part in all at your doorstep.

Mexico City, Mexico •
Newcastle, England •

Newcastle is underrated. We don't get swarms of tourists in Newcastle because everyone outside of it thinks of mining, Billy Elliott and Geordie Shore (yes, it's a rip-off of Jersey Shore) when they hear Newcastle. It's literally student heaven. In comparison to most (or all) other student towns and cities rents are cheap, going out is cheap, living is cheap in general and there's a fantastic underground alternative scene happening. Culturally Newcastle satisfies all my needs: independent cinemas, theatres, two Universities, eco-shops, etc. - It may not have the sightseeing quality that London or Edinburgh have, but it's got charm and it's unique. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else and I hope the creative scene keeps on striving without attracting too much attention that might spoil the city.

Shrewsbury, England • Visit Website »

The best thing about living in Shrewsbury is that there is a lot of history here. From Shrewsbury castle to the Tudor buildings that are still seen today. Shrewsbury is on the bend of the River Severn and has some lovely bridges; The English Bridge, The Welsh Bridge and Port Hill Bridge. Shrewsbury is also the birthplace of Charles Darwin and also where ‘A Christmas Carol (1984)’ was shot. . . . Love that film! There are lovely churches as well as fantastic galleries to check out. There is always something to do here.

Inverness, Scotland •

The best thing about living in Inverness is the abundance of of stunning views and greenspaces that can inspire you. That coupled with the friendly locals makes it a fantastic place to live.Inverness is also the capital city and shopping centre of the Highlands and has a great location astride the River Ness at the northern end of the Great Glen. If you visit you must take a stroll along the picturesque River Ness, visit Ness Islands, and have a meal in one of the city's excellent restaurants. In summer visitors and locals alike head a few miles outside the city intent on monster hunting at nearby Loch Ness. Finally, Inverness is the happiest place in Scotland and the second happiest in the UK, according to a survey earlier this year and as we all know a happy crafter is a productive crafter

Zagreb, Croatia •

I love how Zagreb is a big city but at the same time also very small. The centre is beautiful and full of people, yet you only need to go a bit out of the centre to enjoy nature and peace and quiet. There are many interesting museum worth visiting, lots of things happening throughout the year and many bars and restaurants with big terraces in the sun where you can spend your afternoons with your friends relaxing and chatting.

London, England • Visit Website »

The people and the many attractions are awesome; even on a tight budget London is still a fun place to just walk around, especially if you hit up all the free entry museums and check out the art works.

Glasgow, Scotland •

The first thing to note about Glasgow as Scotland's largest city is that every corner is it's own pocket world and entirely different vibe. The city centre is busy, bustling and vibrant, has all the shopping and attractions you'd expect of a metropolitain city. As the second oldest city in the UK, it has lots of fantastic old arcitecture, beautiful listed buildings and all you have to do is look up! Or better still, head to the Lighthouse and catch this view.

Berlin, Germany •

Berlin means freedom, creativity and inspiration for me. I appreciate that it's not a city of a fake smile, it can be hard and cold, but also beautiful. It can lead you far away from your point of view, but also take you home.
