Features

I'm a recent graduate with a degree in Illustration trying to draw for a living! I paint mostly in watercolor and my favorite things to paint are ladies with attitude, pretty clothes, and nature. I try to empower women through my art and I hope to get into the fields of fashion illustration and children's books! When I'm not painting, I'm working retail, going to thrift stores, and watching anime. I'm honored to be featured on Cut Out and Keep!

Have you always been creative and artistic?

Yeah, I've been drawing since I was a kid! I've always known I wanted to be an artist, and decided on Illustration my senior year of highschool because the storytelling aspect appealed to me.

How would you describe the style of your work?

Funky, patterned, girl power vibes. The style I usually work in is pretty hectic and busy, and I'm always trying to cram as much cute clothes as I can into each piece. I love doing portraits, and ladies are my favorite subject. I consider my work to be very personal and I think you can tell a lot about my personality and the things that are important to me through my paintings.

What’s in your pencil case and what’s your favorite tool?

In my little tool box I keep my xacto knife, a bunch of brushes, an eraser, pens and mechanical pencils. I'm really not very fussy when it comes to tools (I should probably treat mine better) but I love using Winsor Newton gouaches as super-saturated watercolors.

Who is your favorite superhero?

Wonder Woman. Because like, powerful babe wearing stars.

If you could have one super power what would it be?

I'd want to fly. I've always wanted to be able to fly!

Where do you look for inspiration?

When I'm in an art rut I listen to sappy indie songs, browse tumblr, and look to nature. Seeing beautiful photographs or hearing pretty words never fails to give me ideas.

Who are your favorite artists or comic book authors?

Some of my faves are Wishcandy, Tir-ri, Le Maddy, the Paperbeast, Caitlin Clarkson, Lize Meddings, Mel Stringer, Creature Type, Caitlyn Shearer, Natali Koromoto, the list goes on! So many inspiring ladies out there making art.
