We head to Savannah, Georgia to indulge with dessert and cocktails at Lulu's Chocolate Bar where we learn to make a Grand Marnier Buttercream Cake and B-52 Coffee Drink.

How did you get started?

Lulu's was started in 2007 by myself and Janine Finn. We're best friends who had been looking for a way to start a business together despite our very different backgrounds. Turns out it was a match made in heaven - Janine had the business savvy and I had the passion for baking and desserts. 7 years later we're still growing (we added a boutique bakery and offsite kitchen to keep up with the demand) and we're still best friends!

Where are you located?

Our restaurant, Lulu's Chocolate Bar, is located in beautiful downtown Savannah at 42 MLK Jr.Blvd. Our boutique bakery, LuluCakes, is located on 7060 Hodgson Memorial Dr. in Savannah's midtown area.

What are your specialities?

One of the most popular items on our menu since the day we opened is the Strawberry Suspension Cake, 2 layers of chocolate cake with mascarpone cheese and whipped cream sandwiched in between with strawberries floating in the cream, then covered in a chocolate glaze. Other favorites are the White Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Praline Pecan Pie and Beautiful Peach Tart.

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

My favorite changes all the time! Last week it was the Banana Split Cheesecake and right now it's the Neopolitan Cake (3 layers of dark chocolate cake with strawberry, vanilla and chocolate swiss buttercream).

What's on the stereo?

Fun, upbeat music. We usually have a pretty eclectic range from 50's pop to current hits. Right now Harry Belafonte's Banana Boat song is playing. (Day O, Daaaaaay O, daylight come and me wan go home).

Where else should we visit in your area?

Forsyth Park, a big beautiful park in the middle of town, The Sentient Bean coffee shop - best coffee in town and all organic and fair trade, plus great vegetarian and vegan food. At night, Circa 1875 either for a drink or dinner, great atmosphere and delicious food.

Do you host any special events?

We host special profit sharing charity events quite frequently, and weekly on Sundays we have Trivia Night!

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
