How would you describe your style?

I like to think that I'm fairly classic, with bits of 40's and 50's sneaking in there every now and then.

What's your favourite piece in your wardrobe?

It tends to change with the seasons. In the fall and winter, I love my 1940's taupe wool swing coat with fur collar.
In the spring and summer, I have a navy blue dirndl skirt with white pin dots that gets worn every week.

Who are your style icons?

I've always appreciated Katherine Hepburn for feminizing menswear. I love a tailored look and she did it well. And speaking of Hepburns, Audrey Hepburn, of course, had such a simple effortless style that is feminine without being fussy, which I love.

Do you have any favourite designers?

I've never really followed designers! I just like what I like...

Where are your favourite places to shop for new clothes?

If I'm looking for something a bit more fashion forward and budget friendly I go to H&M. I like the Gap though for all my basics, as well as things that I want to last a few seasons.

Do you make or customise your outfits?

Always! Since my early twenties I have learned how to draft my own patterns and make my own clothes. I was frustrated with how a lot of clothes in stores were too short/revealing. I'm not trying to be prudish, but I need to be able to be comfortable in what I wear. I prefer to wear skirts and dresses, so mini skirts are just impractical for every day! (or ever, in my case with a one year old running around!)

Do you have any great tips for mixing up and personalising an outfit?

For me, I generally try to go for a less is more look. Take one statement piece and build down (in terms of how much pattern or "frill" it has). In my outfit, the plaid skirt was the main idea, the burgundy tights were bold, but still pretty basic, and the plain black top was obviously the basic.

Which other fashion blogs do you love to read?

I love Jamie Beck from Ann Street Studios. She does classic elegance very well.
