  • How to double crochet . How To Double Crochet - Step 1
    Step 1

    Chain a number of chains - let's say 10.
    Next, yarn over the hook.

    1) Insert hook through the Xth chain (in the tutorial it says the third chain).

    2) Yarn over hook and

    3) Gently pull the wrapped yarn through the stitch .

    There will be three loops on the hook.

    Step 4

    Now wrap the yarn again on the hook / yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two stitches on the hook

    There will be two loops left

    Yarn over again and draw the yarn through both loops

the only problem with this; is that based of the books i learnt crochet from this is also called a treble stitch.
i don't know if its relevant to whether you learn european 'v' american or the timeline (60's, 70's, 80's, etc) but some of the books refer to this stitch as a treble.

the way i learnt was :
double crochet
half-treble
treble
double treble
etc

but some books :

single crochet
half double crochet
double crochet
treble

(just some FYI for those who end up with my problem Happy )

Yeah, I've had a few problems with this too when using American vs English patterns. I start crocheting and think I'm going crazy until I realise I'm doing the wrong stitch because it's an international pattern.
