DIY Studded & Frayed Shorts & Pyramid Circular Necklace

Recreate the look with Saran's DIY Studded & Frayed Shorts and DIY Pyramid Ring Necklace tutorials:

How would you describe your style?

I don’t seem to be able to describe my own style, even though my friends do! I quite enjoy experimenting different styles so it’s a little difficult to define my style. Although most of the time I would probably say that my style is laid-back boho, to suit the hot weather in Borneo.

What's your favourite piece in your wardrobe?

At the moment I can’t seem to get enough of my 11” metallic leather satchel from The Cambridge Satchel Company! I’ve been a fan of theirs from the beginning and am a guilty owner of 4 beautiful satchels...

Who are your style icons?

Nicole Richie, Lucy Liu and people who are not afraid to dress differently!

Do you have any favourite designers?

I love Balmain because their pieces are so edgy, Mary Katrantzou for her loud graphic prints, Farah Khan for her exquisite dresses, Sereni & Shentel for their delicious headbands and Havaianas for creating the comfiest flip flops ever!

Where are your favourite places to shop for new clothes clothes?

I prefer hitting the sales, or finding a good bargain in search of new clothes. I love sourcing vintage and charity shops to find hidden treasures. One learns to have a keen eye when you’re on a tight budget! Otherwise, I’m usually to be found checking out H&M, ASOS or other local boutiques in Malaysia.

Do you make or customise your outfits?

I make and customise more accessories than clothing because I don’t have a clue on how to do complicated sewing! One of the reasons why I got into DIY was when one day I saw an expensive wrap bracelet, fell in love with it but couldn’t justify its pricetag. This then motivated me to figure out how to make my own personalised wrap bracelet at a fraction of the price! It's the same with doing my own nail art as manicures can be such an unnecessary expense.

Do you have any great tips for mixing up and personalising an outfit?

I like mixing a little vintage or DIY with what I am wearing to give my outfit a more personalised feel because I like being a little different. It is very rewarding in itself when somebody tells you they like what you're wearing and then realise that you actually made/customised it! We only live once so we shouldn't be afraid to dress up and have some fun! Lastly, do dress according to your body shape because in that way, you'll be able to express your style better.
