DIY Embroidered Jeans

Recreate the look with Kara's Free People Inspired: DIY Embroidered Jeans tutorial:

How would you describe your style?

I wouldn't say that I have one particular style. After starting my blog, Sprinkles in Springs, I really started experimenting with it and I'm finding that I have many. But I'd say it definitely comes down to being comfortable, casual and a bit edgy. That's when I feel most like myself.

What's your favourite piece in your wardrobe?

A tan circle dress with small white polka dots from Free People. I always find myself reaching for it because it's such a fun, versatile and easy piece to wear, especially since it's so hot in south Florida. It's one of the most photographed pieces of clothing on my blog, I can't get enough!

Who are your style icons?

I love people who can pull off the effortless chic look. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen of course, Kate Beckinsale, Miranda Kerr, Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie, Rachel Zoe, and a handful of favorite bloggers.

Do you have any favourite designers?

I love Diane Von Furstenberg, Elizabeth & James, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Balmain, Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang, Isabel Marant, Rag & Bone, Tibi

Where are your favourite places to shop for new clothes clothes?

I like shopping at places like Zara and Urban Outfitters for trendy pieces, flash sale websites like Gilt for designer deals (be careful: it can be addicting!), and eBay and Etsy for one of a kind or vintage pieces.

Do you make or customise your outfits?

Because I like to get the designer look for less, I do customize or DIY from time to time. If there's a high-end piece that I love but found a way to make it myself for a fraction of the cost, I see that as a fun crafty challenge too hard to pass up. Plus, it gives you the satisfaction knowing that you feeded your creativity.

Do you have any great tips for mixing up and personalising an outfit?

I think small touches like tucking in the front of the shirt, rolling up or scrunching the sleeves gives your look more personality. Like it's a look that's lived in and not perfect. Adding a vintage bag or interesting piece of jewelry with a story also personalizes your look. It becomes something that's you and not a generic look from the mall.
