Awesome!! I love the tribal style outfits. Unfortunately I only have Egyptian bellydance lessons where I live. At the moment I'm working on a new outfit too and I was considering using kauri shells. Can you tell me how to sew them on? Do you drill holes in them, or just use the 'gap' that's already there?
I made one for my bfriend just a minute ago and he loved it. :)
I think it would be a nice way to say "break a leg" (or toitoitoi) for my fellow musical players when we're performing. So I added it to my favorites. Thanks for the idea!
Earrings or a necklace from abandoned snail shells. (made those already)
Using vibrant flowers in a way that they would not wilt for a brooch/necklace/ring would be cool.
I had something similar, made from an overall (or dust jacket, translated literally). It was this same green color and I used it as a summer coat. Now it has started to fray badly on the sleeves and hem and I'll make a messenger-bag out of it when I get my sewing room in order again. :)
Good info. I think you might want to mention one thing though: it's permanent. It does not wash out, it has to grow out. It does lighten after a while, but it won't completely disappear. I'm a henna user too.
I always understood that the color from henna mixes with something inside the hair. This stuff inside the hair is what gives each hair it's own color. Since henna only adds to that the strands will slightly differ, making it look more realistic than dyes that coat and thus mask the natural differences of the hair.
I also read on a henna site that mixing it with the plant that makes indigo can get you brown to black hair and there was some other plant that will make it more yellow-ish. Unfortunately the link was lost from my bookmarks.
Anyway, sorry for this epistle. Great tutorial, though I always get my boyfriend to put the goo in my hair while I wear a towel around my neck to protect everything below it. ;) Less messy for me.
Thanks for the comment on my sun-pyrography work. I've replied with some answers. I'll paste them here too:
It takes quite some patience and you do need a very sunny day (no mist-like clouds). Here in the Netherlands our default weather is like autumn.. but some days can be beautiful. You should just never work on a deadline. ;-)
The designs are first sketched on with pencil and then I follow the lines with the focused sunbeams. But you could freehand it too. You just need steady hands.

Wow, 3 cats in/on 1 cabinet. Wish my two kitties would get along that well all the time. Though they do sometimes lie side by side on the kitty couch I made them.
My mother in law has lots of furniture to spare... perhaps this would be an idea for our attic. :)
Thanks for the comment on my icicle ornament version. :D
I got some weird ones in the bunch, but the picture doesn't show them very well. Still, how every they curled up I still liked them. I also like the way the edges make little bubbles and stay white when the plastic hardens again, when you heat it a bit too much. ;-)
Looks like these use the same ingredients as my cheese cookies. Perhaps I could try smaller and thinner shapes some time, see if they turn out cracker like.
Haha, great! I like yours better than the 'official' version, which just looks weird.
Maybe you could add clear varnish or even resin to make it rain proof?
Do the eyes stay on despite the bending of the shoe?
Heya fellow dutchy! Looks good. I imagine it will 'bleep' easily too like this. Mine won't bleep unless I get it all the way out of my wallet because some other stuff in my wallet conflicts with the reader.
Masterful. Unfortunately I mostly throw socks away when there's holes in them and they're all black. This would be a good idea for knee high rainbow socks that only have holes in the foot part. :)
Hmm.. maybe I should try convincing my boyfriend to let me use his old t-shirts for a project like this. It won't be as colorful as yours though, you have such nice shirts. :)
Whoehoe, nog een hollander. :)
Thanks for the fave on my chocolate mug cake version. :)
Die polymer clay haarklipjes zien er tof uit. Ik ben echt zoooo slecht met klei. ;-) Knap hoor.
Ha, these look almost exactly like the ones I made. (prehistoric candles) But mine isn't a how to.
I use an old pan to melt the wax of old candles and make a new wick from linen thread.
Doesn't your microwave get all icky on the inside from the fumes?
I made this as a costume part out of split leather. But I had just a rectangle with the ends cut up into long and wide fringes. That way you can adjust under and above your breasts and in the middle by paring up the fringes and tying them together.
The mockup (old bed sheet) worked better than the leather final though. The leather one even needed a shoulder strap. (but that was not an issue for my costume)
I always find it magical to see things like this work. I'd never wear it because I'd fear it would slip down eventually. ;-)
You look gross. And that's a compliment for this project. ;-)
The fake blood, don't they sell it in a non-drying variety? I think I saw it somewhere...
I imagine it sticks like crazy. *grin*
Does it dry up brown and crumbly?
The fake blood from the stores always leaves pink stains...
A friend of mine once used syrup as a base, you could actually eat/drink it, though it was overly sweet. Did look good but was very sticky and attracted insects. :p
Good work! Does your cat like it?
Cat trees are indeed quite expensive.
This week I saw a cat tree for only 17 euros at a thrift store! Unfortunately I don't have room for it in my house (already have 2 cat trees, one of them I made myself).
Hoi Jet,
ik was helemaal niet beledigd hoor. Don't worry. ;-)
Jouw manier van kaarsen maken klinkt ook wel interessant. Nooit aan zand gedacht als vormpjes.
A pannier, as dictionary.com informed me, is a basket meant to be carried on the back. Among other things. ;-)
The Dutch word is 'draagmand' and I had to use translate.google.com to get the English word. ;-)
Hoi Jet,
bedankt voor al je enthousiaste reacties. :) Ik vraag me inderdaad ook af of Amerikanen die fietsmand gaan herkennen.
For the candles I used clay beads I made earlier and it works well enough. I have an old pan that was abused at a campfire once to melt the wax in. Unfortunately I do not have bowls that fit in my pans to do 'au bain marie'. (When melting chocolate I always do that in a pan on low fire with constant stirring)
The pattern for the alpaca plushy can be found by going to the original project (http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/alpaca-plushie-d) and then clicking the link on the bottom of her description.
If you make a version, please publish it!
As for crafty things for your boyfriend: I've seen quite some coupon/gift-voucher howto's on this site. Perhaps you could give him a few of those that say 'shoulder rub' or 'doing the dishes' or (other) things that he likes.
Thanks for the comments on my free cat toy. Your cat sounds hilarious. :p
Perhaps if you get the toilet roll(s) to stay in one place she'll try different things to get to the treat instead of 'following it around'. My cats started with only using their noses too.
My cats would freak out if I tried to put anything (clothes, collar, anything) on them. :P
Fortunately my cats have a nice little coat to keep themselves warm so I don't have to dress them.
You cat must be a very patient and calm cat. ;-) Does he like to go out on walks?
Thanks for the comment on my prehistoric shoe. I replied to it with this text:
I'm not going to bead them. ;-)
I'm playing a hunter-gatherer whom, presumably, had no time for elaborate decorations on clothing/shoes.
Apart from that, this leather is really too thick. I made it from leather of almost 0.5 cm thickness, not the soft buckskin that should have been used. It would be hell to bead it. ;-)

It's so pink and flowery! Cute. Is it a granddaughter or did you make blue versions too? Do they work?
If it is all cloth it is way better (for the environment) than the plastic throw-away stuff from the stores. I never wore anything but cotton diapers. (If I would get children they'd get cloth diapers too)
It looks very nice. I like the colors you used.
How does the calendar work though? Do you do something with the rings?
I only know the awful-chocolate-behind-a-door kind of calendars.
It looks cute. My cats would hate it though (as they should, why dress up an animal?).
I think that the cat would use it as a plaything when you use real feathers.
Bloody! :p
You could also use charcoal from a campfire mixed with something greasy. (or not mixed, but it will dust off eventually) Then you can do black and red together.
For just a mug of hot chocolate I think it's too much trouble (when in 'need chocolate now' mode); just throw some chocolate into a pan of heating milk.
But as a gift they would be great, and probably cheaper than the store-bought ones.
Hmmm.. my 'mother in law' (read: chocolate monster) is celebrating her birthday soon....
It looks very cute.
But I always wonder why one would dress up an animal that already has a coat of its own.
Unless of course its such a far-fetched breed that it can't keep itself warm. Then it would be functional.
The cats normally walk over our desk to the window sill and walk carefully onto the couch.
The window is always closed so they can't fall out of the window (3rd floor...).
They could jump onto it from the floor, but they're too careful (or lazy) to do it.
Also, the foam is quite dense; it's not bouncy.
If they might jump poorly and fall they've probably learned from it the first time it happens. Cats are much less breakable than humans and they don't feel sorry for themselves. ;-)
I have had a pair of those for a looooong time. But I didn't kill my pencils for it. They just got shorter through usage. I got a grey tip and a red tip.
Mine are messier because I just coiled wire around them and attached a hook to that.
You can see them on my 'wall of earrings' in the top left corner of the black frame.
It looks neat. But I always wonder how long it lasts before it all gets smudged in the eyelid crease.
And how long does it take to get it off again? :-p
I seldom wear eye make-up. It is too much trouble and because my eyes are different it does never look good.
Yours looks great though. :) *envious*
miriam e. said something about not all pills working when crushed. Also check if you can use milk with the medication (it's not always the case). I think honey would be less of a problem, unless you're trying to give a child under 1 year old the stuff.
I never have problems with pills. I can even swallow some of them without any liquid. ;-)
Still, good tip for those who do have problems taking pills.
Thanks for the comment on my glass window rainbow hanger. I replied to your comment at my page. Here's the summary:
I just happened to have a large broken sheet of glass and the paints and lead from a glass-painting period, so I combined it. :) I do not often work with glass.
Nope, I don't often work with glass. I just happened to have bought a large frame for a puzzle we finished and then it broke. So I had a large sheet of glass that was broken in two. I decided not to throw it away but to use it for crafting.
Some time ago I had a glass-painting (old bottles and stuff) period from which I still had the lead and the paints. And there you have it. :)
I got three of such skirts, but usually I add a circle skirt as base and layer the squares over it. I don't like my calves showing under a long skirt. ;-)
Thanks for the comment on my chocolate mug cake version. I answered your question there too. It's tablespoons.
I hope your non-egg version works out ok too. :)
I converted Fahrenheit to Celsius and got about 175 degrees, which I turned my oven to.
The cookies were a bit moist on the inside until they were completely cooled, making them break easily. The second batch (not pictured) was cooled longer and more sturdy in the end.
I still don't get how you could measure perfectly with a volume-scale when tamping your ingredient changes the amount you're using. Yay for grams! :-p Whether you put sugar-lumps neatly in a row so they take up less space, or you throw them on a pile: the weight stays the same.
Besides that I think I read somewhere that USA cups are different from UK cups and I've got no clue as to which one my measuring cup uses. (It also shows pints)
Thanks for the fave on my pyro projects. :)
I got a new one in the making: a plate with a butterfly on it. However, the weather is really disappointing at the moment (more like autumn than spring) so it won't get finished for a while.
The measurements are not showing in the 'needed' list. Can you add them or is the site 'broken'? Because 1 teaspoon/tablespoon/handful/cup of sugar/peanutbutter is quite a difference. ;-)
I got a few of these on my clothesline on the balcony. They also work well to repel birds (pigeons mostly, that want to s(h)it on my balcony)
(Young) cats will also love the moving reflections. ;-)
Neat!
You could also add more charms to every bookmark.
I've got a bookmark in the shape of a diving mermaid. Her tail hangs over the back of the book when it's closed. I added a piece of chain and lots of charms and beads. It dangles very nicely.
These look so good! However, I'm a bit apprehensive about the cups measurements. Last time I tried it (even though I found a tea glass that is able to contain one cup worth of water) the result wasn't exactly right.
And ehm, icing sugar. Is that like powdered sugar?
Thanks for faving my version of the '5 min chocolate mug cake'. Be warned though that you should add something to replace the cocoa or else your cake will have a pronounced egg-taste in your cake. ;-)
Great idea.
When I saw the picture I thought you used matchboxes. That would be cool too; you could store earrings in the boxes (make sure you allow them to open) and hang necklaces around them.
I've been dying my hair with henna for a few years now. I only add a little bit of lemon juice and I don't let it sit before having my bf apply it. Also, my hair has to be moist for the henna to work well. My packages of henna tell me that you could also add coffee for a deeper color. My natural color is blond (with a bit of a red sheen) and I keep the henna in for about 2 to 3 hours before rinsing.
I always wanted red hair. Too bad the henna doesn't give it more volume too. ;-)
I'm a bit apprehensive about putting food stuffs in my hair. :-p
I think I saw something similar somewhere on youtube.
Ah, here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGr-LiPboEY
It's not braiding but knotting and you take the ends through the part of the rug you already have. So you don't have to sew it all together in the end.
Since I saw it I wanted to make it, however I still haven't gotten to it yet. And most of my scraps are weird shaped or ravel too much.
I love your version though. I like the rainbow colors.
I commented on your comment on my cheese cookies. Be sure to use tasty cheese because you want to still taste the cheese over the flour. So a salty/spicy cheese would be best. Older cheese is better than younger, softer cheese.
Here in the Netherlands you can buy plastic bags with grated cheese. I normally use the 48+ 'pittige' cheese. Translated that would be something like 'spicy' or 'salty' (the latter being more logical).
Make sure the cheese is tasty, because you'll mix it with flour and you want the taste to still get through that.
What a wonderful idea! And I just happen to have bought a nice length of copper colored wire. :D
Here's an other approach:
My boyfriend started a chain mail project once and he made his own rings by putting a threaded rod onto a drill and then, with the drill on slow, guiding the wire on by hand. Afterwards you can screw the wire coil off of the threaded rod and cut the rings. Of course he needed lots and lots of rings and the wire he used was rather stiff.
Too bad you had to buy an expensive plastic doll when here in the Netherlands the AH sometimes has actions where you get free dolls with a certain value of groceries. This includes Smurfs and Disney figures.
Still, I really like the look of your version. :-)
I never heard of ATC's (might just be me...) but you could also use this tutorial to make your own patches for on clothing or bags. :-)
I like the cute skulls.
@Ariel Grimm
The Netherlands aren't really that interesting. ;-) Although there are some obvious differences between the Netherlands and the USA, they're still both in the rich part of the world.
So simple, yet so effective. I might try this idea to make a small bookmark for my agenda. In the past I used strips of tights for it, but they stretch out too much.
'Unfortunately' I already have an artsy bookmark for my normal books; a diving mermaid with beads on her tail that hang over the back of the book.
Now that would be very handy!
I was planning on putting some nails in a piece of board and then hang my necklaces and earrings on that, but this is much prettier!

Awesome!! I love the tribal style outfits. Unfortunately I only have Egyptian bellydance lessons where I live. At the moment I'm working on a new outfit too and I was considering using kauri shells. Ha, these look almost exactly like the ones I made. (prehistoric candles) But mine isn't a how to.
I use an old pan to melt the wax of old candles and make a new wick from linen thread.
Doesn't your microwave get all icky on the inside from the fumes?
Maladignia over 2 years ago
Thanks for the fave and the comment on my autumn decoration. Be sure to post your version if you make one. :)
Maladignia over 2 years ago
It looks very much like an Elfquest character.
Nice work.
Maladignia over 2 years ago
I made this as a costume part out of split leather. But I had just a rectangle with the ends cut up into long and wide fringes. That way you can adjust under and above your breasts and in the middle by paring up the fringes and tying them together.
The mockup (old bed sheet) worked better than the leather final though. The leather one even needed a shoulder strap. (but that was not an issue for my costume)
I always find it magical to see things like this work. I'd never wear it because I'd fear it would slip down eventually. ;-)

Maladignia over 2 years ago
Hoi Jet,
ik was helemaal niet beledigd hoor. Don't worry. ;-)
Jouw manier van kaarsen maken klinkt ook wel interessant. Nooit aan zand gedacht als vormpjes.
Maladignia over 2 years ago
A pannier, as dictionary.com informed me, is a basket meant to be carried on the back. Among other things. ;-)
The Dutch word is 'draagmand' and I had to use translate.google.com to get the English word. ;-)
Maladignia over 2 years ago
Hoi Jet,
bedankt voor al je enthousiaste reacties.
Maladignia over 2 years ago

As for crafty things for your boyfriend: I've seen quite some coupon/gift-voucher howto's on this site. Perhaps you could give him a few of those that say 'shoulder rub' or 'doing the dishes' or (other) things that he likes.
Maladignia over 2 years ago
Thanks for the comments on my free cat toy. Your cat sounds hilarious. :p
Perhaps if you get the toilet roll(s) to stay in one place she'll try different things to get to the treat instead of 'following it around'. My cats started with only using their noses too.

It would be hell to bead it. ;-)

Maladignia over 2 years ago
It's so pink and flowery! Cute. Is it a granddaughter or did you make blue versions too? Do they work?
If it is all cloth it is way better (for the environment) than the plastic throw-away stuff from the stores. I never wore anything but cotton diapers. (If I would get children they'd get cloth diapers too)

How does the calendar work though? Do you do something with the rings?
I only know the awful-chocolate-behind-a-door kind of calendars.
Maladignia over 2 years ago
It looks cute. My cats would hate it though (as they should, why dress up an animal?).
I think that the cat would use it as a plaything when you use real feathers.
Maladignia over 2 years ago
Bloody! :p
You could also use charcoal from a campfire mixed with something greasy. (or not mixed, but it will dust off eventually) Then you can do black and red together.
Maladignia over 2 years ago
Awesome!
Maladignia over 2 years ago
Great colors! And what a patience you must have. :)
Maladignia over 2 years ago
For just a mug of hot chocolate I think it's too much trouble (when in 'need chocolate now' mode); just throw some chocolate into a pan of heating milk.
But as a gift they would be great, and probably cheaper than the store-bought ones.
Hmmm.. my 'mother in law' (read: chocolate monster) is celebrating her birthday soon....

How sweet!
I'm against dressing up animals, unless it is functional. This definitely is functional.
Did Thomas like it?
Maladignia over 2 years ago
It looks very cute.
But I always wonder why one would dress up an animal that already has a coat of its own.
Unless of course its such a far-fetched breed that it can't keep itself warm. Then it would be functional.

Thanks for the comment on my kitty couch project. I answered your question there. :)
Maladignia over 2 years ago

You can see them on my 'wall of earrings' in the top left corner of the black frame.

miriam e. said something about not all pills working when crushed.

Maladignia almost 3 years ago
Nope, I don't often work with glass. I just happened to have bought a large frame for a puzzle we finished and then it broke. So I had a large sheet of glass that was broken in two. I decided not to throw it away but to use it for crafting.
Some time ago I had a glass-painting (old bottles and stuff) period from which I still had the lead and the paints. And there you have it. :)

I hope your non-egg version works out ok too. :)
Maladignia about 3 years ago
Those measurements are tablespoons. Somewhere in the comments is an Alice who has the measurements that I used.
Maladignia about 3 years ago
Maladignia about 3 years ago
I finally made them. They turned out quite brittle and a bit too sweet to my taste. I posted my version. :)

Very neat design! Great shoes too, too bad I'm not used to wearing (and probably just can't wear) heels. ;-)
Maladignia about 3 years ago

Maladignia about 3 years ago
Thanks for faving my version of the '5 min chocolate mug cake'. Be warned though that you should add something to replace the cocoa or else your cake will have a pronounced egg-taste in your cake. ;-)
Maladignia about 3 years ago

Maladignia about 3 years ago
I commented on your comment on my cheese cookies. Be sure to use tasty cheese because you want to still taste the cheese over the flour. So a salty/spicy cheese would be best. Older cheese is better than younger, softer cheese.
Maladignia about 3 years ago

Maladignia about 3 years ago
Now that would be very handy!
I was planning on putting some nails in a piece of board and then hang my necklaces and earrings on that, but this is much prettier!
