Hi Monica! I'm not sure the gauge of the wire, but it was pretty thin and not very hard. I imagine though it would work for 20 gauge wire or regular jewelry wire. hope it helps :/

You could try shopping around at a store or go thrifting & 'try the shirts on' by buttoning it up around your waste until one fits right with a good length.
Disregard the top 3 buttons or so since you'll cut the shirt across from the armpits :P
