Awardspace.com offers free hosting... I tried it and it works fine, it's just not a dot com but rather a yourname.ueuo.com or similar... hope that helps!
Too bad about the book you messed up... but yeah, the cardboard idea is practical and really easy to make, with realistic results... by the way, I do know how to use flash, but no idea about those videogames you mention...
