Actually, I find that nylon dyes easier than cotton. The fabric absorbs the color faster and deeper with a bit less excess dye washing out. There's a lot of inexpensive nylon blend tights, grab some and give it a go.
I think you'll have fun with it.

Oh, that bowler was on sale at Urban Outfitter's last winter for about $10-. Big Score!! It's totally cute, kinda a 20's flapper girl vibe. Unfortunately, don't have a lead on getting another for you.

Thanks for the shout for my little woolie flower. It was super fun to make and totally addictive. I've got ton more now from any wool scrap I can find.

Hi CraftingFairy,

Those plain straw fedoras are a dime a dozen here in NY. They sell them on the street for $10. I have seen them in regular stores like Target and Marshall's too. They all have some lame hat band which can be pulled off but just look for a good shape to the hat.

Good luck and let me know if you make one. Want see how it comes out.

My extra 2¢: Make sure to rinse it out REAL well. I had to do it twice to make sure and not dye my head.

Thanks for the ♡, friends! It was super fun to make. I was bored one day and fell into a zen moment mindlessly making this giant long crochet chain. Then this idea for a necklace came to me.
Just a happy art accident!

Hey Ursula,
Thanks for the ♡ and, yeah, this should work fine for your cotton blend jeans. I would probably leave it in the dye a little longer than the nylon blend. Also, in my experience, cotton dries a little lighter as well so I'd go for a bit darker shade than the nylon to get to the right shade. Otherwise, the process would be the same.

Have fun with it if you make 'em. Would love to see pics!

Gosh, I totally forgot about this project. It's been so long. I really should try it again to perfect it cause it was a very cool effect.

Yeah, I used Rit Black dye on both pieces. The triangle fold example was immersed in a mixture of Rit Petal Pink and Tangerine after I removed a few washers to get a two color detail but the center was so blown out from being clamped too tight that it really didn't show up much. I think I could figure it out with a bit more experimenting.

Thanks for the love!

Yeah, it is really easy to do. I've got in the habit of making accent beads for a ton of projects.
If you're gonna try it, my best 2¢ is make sure the water's really hot.

Have fun with it!

Thanks for the love, friends. Colorful tights are a real addiction of mine and they're kinda easy to make.

Hey Kai, Those are a regular nylon blend tights. Rit dye works really well them and you'll get nice vibrant colors. It'll work with cotton blend tights too but I would probably leave them in the dye bath a little longer.
Oh, and I love to do graphics and I use Photoshop/Illustrator. That way I don't need to clean my room when I photograph my stuff.
