When did you first get in to cooking and do you remember the first recipe you tried?
I've always enjoyed cooking, but really fell in love with it when I got married and started making meals for my family. As far as the first recipe I tried, I'm not really sure. But I can tell you the recipe I've made the most: my Momma's Baked Mac and Cheese. Best EVER.
What's your kitchen like and how do you keep organized when cooking?
I have an open pantry, a 1979 avocado green gas stove and no microwave. I wish there were more natural light for my food photos! When I'm cooking I like to gather my ingredients on the counter, then put them away as I use them. If I've got a lot of prep to do, a garbage bowl is a lifesaver!
What tips would you give to someone wanting to become a better cook?
Follow recipes! Read the ingredients list and see if it sounds good, and if it does, try it! That's how I really learned about flavor combinations, herbs and spices, and cooking techniques. Use seasonal fresh ingredients as often as possible!
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party and what would you cook for them?
Oh, man. That's tough. I don't know if I'd do well cooking for a bunch of superstars or dignitaries, so I'm going to stick with a dinner party for my family. My Mom always says you can't go wrong with cooking Italian for a large crowd, so I'd prepare an Italian feast with fresh bread and homemade sauce.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
Hobbies? Gardening. I love growing my own veggies. Vegetable gardening is SO rewarding. Crafts? I'm all about woodworking. I wish I did it more!
