I used a pattern but I lost the source. Seems like a pretty standard project though.

    row 1: dc in third chain from hook. dc in next 8 ch (9 dc total). *dc 3 times in next chain. 1 dc in next 9 ch. skip 2. dc in next 9 ch.*
    repeat from * until end of chain.

    row 2-end: ch 3. repeat from * above

    I changed colors every 4 rows. Feel free to do whatever you want for colors.

    Fasten off when afghan is desired length.
