A fast knit for yourself or as a gift. Simple yet impressive! With two sizes small and large. Our pattern is based on a 4x4 Diagonal Rib Stitch that’s taken a walk on the wild side. Inspired by a pattern found in Barbara G. Walker’s “A Treasury of Knitting Patterns” The photos included use Tempting Ewe Yarns Ewe So Wooly Worsted. This pattern uses multiples of 8 minus 1 stitch. You can alter the pattern to suit your needs or creative tendencies. The smaller pattern uses 16 repeats of 8-1. The long size is simply doubled.

Instructions

  1. Cast on 127 (255), join in the round and place Marker. Setup Rows Row 1: Knit all sts. Row 2: Purl all sts. Row 3: Knit all sts. Begin working in pattern as follows: Pattern Repeat: Row 1: *(K4 P4)* until last 7 stitches, K4 P3 Row 2: P1 *(K4 P4)*until last 6 stitches, K4 P2 Row 3: P2 *(K4 P4)* until last 5 stitches, K4 P1 Row 4: P3 *(K4 P4)*until last 4 stitches, K4 Row 5: P4 *(K4 P4)* until the last 3 stitches, K3 Here’s where the Zig Starts to Zag (Note the K2 instead of K4. That’s what makes the magic.) Row 6: K1 P4 *(K4 P4)* until the last 2 stitches K2 Row 7: P4 *(K4 P4)* until the last 3 stitches K2 P1 Row 8: P3 *(K4 P4)* until the last 4 stitches K2 P2 Row 9: P2 *(K4 P4)* until the last 5 stitches K2 P3 Row 10: P1 *(K4 P4)* until the last 6 stitches K2 P4 Repeat 10 rows until you are satisfied leaving enough yarn to: Knit the 3 setup rows Bind off using your prefered method and Block.
