Get rid of those holed up stockings & turn them into something new!
My friend and I were shopping at American Apparel one time and stumbled upon an adorable braided belt. It was so versatile that we both knew it would go well with a lot of our clothes. It had a sort of bohemian chic to it. She was very tempted to buy it but I thought to myself that it wasn't worth my $12. So I went ahead and told her that I can easily make one just like it. She wouldn't believe me, but I proved her wrong!

It's very easy to make, although it does require a lot of your time. If you're willing to try & make one let me know, I may post a tutorial if you are up for the challenge!

  • Step 1

Use your scissors to cut the stockings down the middle to create to leg pieces.

  • Step 2

Cut each part equally in half again. To help you, use the bottom seam where the foot is and follow along the fold all the way towards the garter at the top.

  • Step 3

Now that you have 4 pieces, you are going to have to equally cut each of those pieces in half again. In the end you should have 8 pieces of your stocking, but you will only be using 6 pieces.

  • Step 4

Take your needle and thread for this next step. Take 6 of your pieces and make 3 pairs. Layout the pairs so that the ends match. Sew along the bottom part of the stockings of each pair, only the tip! You should have 3 long separate pieces.

  • Step 5

Sew one end of all 3 pieces together so they don't move around.

  • Step 6

Start braiding your 3 long pieces. Stretch them while you braid so they end up longer than they should be.

  • Step 7

Sew the end when you are done & voila! I hope this helps, I'll post up pictures soon to show you all. I just haven't got around to do so. Have fun with your new belt!

Awesome! Although mine didn't turn out as long. Next time I'll use two pairs of stockings.
For the ends, I was too lazy to sew, so instead I took a spool of thread and wrapped the end with it. Looks great with the rest of the belt!
