I love fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables-- I grew up used to having a huge garden in the yard. Now, I live in a townhouse where groundspace is at a premium (and most of the good stuff doesn't belong to me.) I tried a small herb garden last summer in a plastic sweater container, but didn't really get it started soon enough. This year, I vowed to start early.
Some of these pictures are staged-- I wanted to wait until something started growing to make sure it would work. Further, the main picture isn't mine-- my herbs aren't that big yet, but I wanted to give you an idea of what it might/could look like at the end.

Thanks! I'm really having fun with this-- I've got pots and takeout containers full of dirt and plants in various stages of growing-ness all over my kitchen/dining room. I'm hoping that eventually, one day, I'll have something that looks vaguely like the main project picture... you know, something that will season more than one cooking project. :)

Thanks! Things are kind of getting out of control-- I have a pot of cucumber plants that had to go outside earlier than I would have liked, because it started to grow up my dining room chair, down the heating vent and into my vacuum cleaner. As soon as finals are finished, I'm hoping to get a chance to play some catch-up with the repotting thing!

I've done this so many times so far this spring! At school I was able to make use of the takeout containers but now that i'm home I had to make due with plastic storage containers and saran wrap. I had green bean plants shoot up 3 times faster using your tips than I would have otherwise! Thanks so much for the inspiration ^,^

You're welcome! I'm glad it worked out for you! I should have done some sort of beans-- bean sprouts would taste yummy on my salads (though my lettuce and my dill didn't make it-- didn't repot them soon enough.)
Those takeout containers sure are handy-- I've actually stopped eating takeout and was at a loss for what to use now, but I'll have to try the plastic wrap! So thanks for YOUR tip!
