Window Dressing In The Kitchen

  • Completed Project: Window Dressing In The Kitchen Picture #1

Kitchen Window Pasta Drying Rack

I made pasta with my family and the drying racks are odd things to store away. I hung these up above the kitchen window and started decorating it. It evolved into a herb drying rack. At holiday times I change the decor to the theme or seasons. It works still as a pasta drying rack but I don't have to take it down and store it. Baskets also can hang from these, just remember it cannot take alot of weight. Seems to hold up to about 10 Lbs when I've got baskets and herbs drying on it.

  1. Step 1

Select pasta drying racks from wood. I am using 2 of these for my kitchen window that can fit two nicely. Line the bottom edges of the racks so that the racks bottom edge meet just above the window cutout. You don't need to place these at the every outer edge. You want to have the items above spill over as opposed to framing.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Make sure the racks are equaly spaced enough in the middle to equal the space between each of the round dowels. Nail into the wall so that the nail holds up the top bar with the nail head exposed. Now do the same with the bottom of the dowels.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Finished they should hang level and no more than two nails are needed for each rack. Provided that you used a good nail these have the capacity of 10 lbs weight on each rack.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

I placed some tin trays on top, an empty pie painted tin. Next I placed dried and fake boughs of oak and sunflowers, straw flowers and lavendar spikes. Smells wonderful and I can change it at any time. I have hung a heart grape vine and star. You can still see thru the window and get the morning light. At night you get a pretty view from the outside.
