love making these... : )
 <  Image 1 of 4  >

these balls are really easy to make..but can get tough for those who dont get the trick behind it...i am addicted to making these..can also be used for decorative purposes :)..i hope the instructions are clear enough.the steps can get pretty confusing.the trick is to weave the ball.the strip should go in over and under the other strip.in this way no strip will be hanging out loose...

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

    gather all the material required

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

cut out strips (29cmsx1.5cms)of each sheet

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

as shown in the picture, make a cut(.75cm-half the width).make it the opposite on the other end.make it on every strip.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

take one colour strip and make a ring by bringing in the ends and lock it by joining it with each other.this is how we LOCK the strips.we will keep it aside for awhile.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

take the other five strips and make a star shape by weaving it,one under the other.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

it should be in such a way that you can lift the whole star by holding one strip.if there is any loose end hanging that means there is something wrong.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

stick some tape to hold the shape.the tape should not be sticky because we would be taking it off later.to make it loose its adhesiveness,it can be stuck to a cloth piece or any other surface and then used.

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

take every other end and hold.this end will be the one which goes behind the adjacent strip.i have marked it red for easy reference.make sure you dont have both the ends of a strip.that means there has been something wrong.

  9. Step 9

    Step 9

now insert the earlier ring we made over the strips we are holding.now we have half the strips inside the ring and the rest half outside.

  10. Step 10

    Step 10

now take the outside end and take it over the inside end( as shown in the figure).i have marked the strips as:

    red:inside
    black:outside

  11. Step 11

    Step 11

once this step is done ,none of the ends will be loose. the structure would resemble a basket..

  12. Step 12

    Step 12

now is the tricky part...i hope i am clear enough..we use the over and under technique..i am using the green strip as an example...

since the green strip is UNDER the yellow strip..i take it OVER the purple strip and UNDER the blue strip and lock it.

  13. Step 13

    Step 13

i have locked in the green strip..now i take the blue strip.

  14. Step 14

    Step 14

since the blue strip is OVER the green strip so it will go UNDER the orange strip and OVER the yellow strip and join.

  15. Step 15

    Step 15

this way join all the other strips.make sure you follow the OVER UNDER path.

  16. Step 16

    Step 16

it should resemble somewhat like this structure.

  17. Step 17

    Step 17

poke and take out the tape we had stuck earlier.

  18. Step 18

    Step 18

stick scotch tape over the locks(this time ,the sticky ones..lol)..adjust the strips.

  19. Step 19

    Step 19

    tada!!!your ball is ready :)

in the main picture i have fixed it over christmas lights..it looks really nice that way ^.^..

P.S: the steps look tough...but once you get a hang of it then it'll be a child's play.
