  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Draw the patterns for your cuffs onto a record with a white-out pen. Overlap a second record and trace.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Cut shapes out with a jig saw and smooth sharp edges with a hand file. This step is the most labor intensive, it helps to have access to electric gear.

*The star shape that's left over can be used to make a jewlery holder :)

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

You can also punch or drill holes into the vinyl before you shape them.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

While holding onto one corner, dip shape into boiling water. Bend accordingly to get the curve you want. Vinyl cools fast when its taken out of water, but you can redip as many times as it takes.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Round out the back by pressing down on the corners.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

Decorate the outside with whatever you like. Glue fur trim to the inside to make them cozy.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Thanks for the comments :) If you dont have records to use the $1 bin at a record store or the Goodwill is a good place to find them. I've been also thinking about finding some colored vinyl.

I absolutely LOVE this project! I make a lot of jewelry and I love making some collections out of recycled materials. My bf is a mad record collector and we always have tons we dont want/need/like! I'm doin' this one over the holidays! Oh and I'm gonna see if he will part with any of his coloured vinyls and I'll let you know how it turns out!

VERY cool. I've seen these before, but not this nicely done or with instructions this easy. AND, I just got a new jig saw for Christmas....but I wonder, has anyone tried to cut vinyl with a dremel? Also, if you can't find vinyl records at the consignment shops, there's almost always some at garage sales...

hey! tried this, sorta...don't have a fine enough blade on my jigsaw and I can't find my coping saw, BUT, my son has a little craft saw so I cut out shapes big enough to make rings! and it worked! the biggest problem is that you need to use pliers to hold them into the water. this makes a dent, but if you centre it you can glue the 'jewel' right over it! or I could glue the jewel, if my darn contact cement hadn't turned nasty and unusable...

guess I wasn't prepared to start off huh? LOL...

I love making things with vinyl! I saw this on a show in a bit different way. You can heat it with a heat tool then cut it with scissors or tin snips. Then you take a glass jar or drinking glass a bit bigger than your wrist. Then put the cut out vinyl in the oven on a cookie sheet on about 250 degrees until it softens. Using an oven mitt and/or tongs immediately wrap around the glass to form the cuff. Use the heat tool to smooth out any dents from the process. After it cools embellish with dimensional items and or paint/ink etc. I think I saw this on Stylicious on DIY with Jennifer Perkins. It would be on their website. That's where I first saw the vinyl bags and bowls too! Fun stuff!

I tried these about two months ago and I loved them! They look so cool! The only problem was that I cut them out with a dremel, and so much friction heated the vinyl and made all of these little barby things that I couldn't sand off. It was very uncomfortable to wear! Maybe I'll try the fur or felt inside! Thanks!

Man I wish we had a jig saw. I wonder how hard it would be cut out with a coping saw? Hrmmmm.
