Get some cheap and useless vinyl records. Don't use anything that doesn't belong to you; instead, check out the local second hand store for cheap records.
Preheat your oven to around 200-250 degrees Fahrenheit (100-150 Celsius).
Place your record on the center of an upside down pot or metal bowl. Put this onto a baking sheet.
Put this into the oven. Keep a close watch because each vinyl starts to "flop" at a different time. It usually takes 4-8 minutes.
Take the whole thing out of the oven (wearing oven mitts, of course) once you notice some real "flopping" going on.
Put your record into another bowl and shape it around that, or you can hand mold it. Sometimes, you might like the way it looks right as you take it out of the oven; if so, skip the molding.
Let it cool for 10-15 minutes.
Flip it over.
Put your bowl to use!

Put the bowl and record in the oven and place a can on top of the record, in the center.
Watch closely as the record sinks into the bowl. If the sides fold over the glass bowl, then the can might not be heavy enough, or you need a larger glass bowl. If you don't want to start over, or if you simply want a deeper vinyl bowl, you can try pushing it down carefully.

My sister did this about 30 (OMG am I that old?) with Beatles record including some that weren't only released in England. Who knew that she was melting away a fortune. She also painted them (with spray paint) and put glitter on them. Then she gave one to everyone for Christmas.

ive been wanting to do this for ages, and i heard you could do it with hot water, but i thought it would be a bit dangerous, so this way is ideal for my clumbsy hands!!

instead of using an oven, you can heat water in a large pot/pan over the stove, put the record in it , taking out after a few minutes (depending on heat)
and then mold it how-ever you like =)

So I got a whoosh of inspiration and made my own. I think you know what records you don't touch like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and because my mum would have put me in the oven if I'd melted that! I was so hot while making my version and I was scared I'd break the oven or something would catch fire or I'd bake my own hand haha

is anyone else feeling bad about melting a record? lol....guess i should just get over it and find a crappy record i don't care about and use it. i can't bare to take one from my own collection for sappy sentimental reasons. but these are freakin cute. so as soon as i make it back up to great escape(likely this weekend) i'm gonna make one, too...just gotta find a record i don't feel bad about melting. :)

Is it hot to the touch? Do you have to wear gloves while you mold it to the shape you want?
