A cute Vera Bradley style ID case

ID Cases are pretty big on my college campus but I hate buying a new one every time mine wears out, so I decided to create my own pattern and have more control over the fabrics I could choose from! It has an inner pocket for an ID with a window, and then space behind the pocket for a few more cards and a few bucks!

  1. Step 1 1

For the project you'll need two different patterns of fabric, some clear vinyl and a zipper. . I also think its useful to have a rotary cutter, although scissors work just fine too. You shouldn't need too much zippers, I used fat quarters and they worked jut fine! In my images, the outer fabric is the flowered and the inner lining is the green.

  2. Step 2 2

Cut 2 3.5"x5" squares of outer

    Cut 3 3.5"x5" of inner

    Iron all flat

Cut a piece of clear vinyl 3.75"x2.5"

  3. Step 3 3

Iron over a fold 3/4 inches along the top(lengthwise) of the two inners.

  4. Step 5 4

Cut out inside the furthest inside line. The cut portion ends up being about 2.75"x1.75". The window you cut should be smaller than the id.

  5. Step 5 5

Trace the id on the center back (wrong side) of an outer piece. Trace 1/4" inside this line

  6. Step 6 6

Cut the diagonals of the 1/4 inside and fold over, iron to stay.

  7. Step 7 7

Sew the vinyl into place, centered over the folded diagonals.

  8. Step 8 8

Take the two folded inner pieces and topstitch together at the top with the folds on the inside. In the picture, this is the two pieces separated. The small folds should be on the inside. This is the pocket piece

  9. Step 9 9

Trace the same id and repeat the same folding/diagonal cutting process as was used in step 4, only now with an inner piece

  10. Step 10 10

Sew the two pieces with windows together, matching the new stitch over the stitch used to previously attach the vinyl.

  11. Step 11 11

Sew the pocket piece to the window piece by sewing a third time over the stitch just used in the previous step. Leave the top over however, to create a pocket. This completes the front of the ID case.

  12. Step 12 12

Baste the back lining to the back outer, wrong sides together.

  13. Step 13 13

Sew wrong side of zipper to front top

  14. Step 14 14

Sew right side of zipper to the right side of the outer back. Top stitch zipper in place on the outside of the case.

  15. Step 15 15

Sew the bottom and only 1 side of the front and back pieces together. Open to zipper to make it easier to turn the case right side out later.

  16. Step 16 16

Cut a piece of outer fabric 2.5"x1". Fold two halves in, then fold in half (like making bias tape). Sew to hold.

  17. Step 17 17

Fold the key holder in half lenthwise and place the keyring at the fold. Place between front and back on open side and sew in place. (you'll want to go over the keyring holder piece many many times because it will have the most stress on it.

  18. Step 18 18

So the final side together and turn right side out. You're all done!!
